5 FRIDAY - OCTOBER 1973
278TH DAY - 87 DAYS TO COME

Letter from Don Turnbull. Mentioned ACQUIRE, PATTON, HOLIDAY, FITTING & PROPER, THE RIGHT CONNECTIONS, INFINITY, REALM, MONTAGE, CARTEL, GAMES WITH PENCIL & PAPER, ELEUSIS, COURIER, ALBION (back numbers and its demise at #50), his visit to U.S., my missing column in S & T, and a new war GAME by Tony Jones.
Letter from Carol Peterson of 3M. Enclosed a letter with a skill version of ACQUIRE and a new catalog.
Later I thought of this skill version for ACQUIRE. Instead of players having a hand of tiles, a certain number are placed face up. players bid for the right to play and one, eliminating regular turns. More money to start would be necessary.

Rcd. a call from {Miss Universe Contest (or was it Miss World?)

She is working with them in producing items to cash in on the publicity of the contest. One idea she had was for a GAME. Among other companies, she contacted 3M and Bill Caruson suggested that she contact me. Her idea was for me to come up with a GAME using the material she gives me. She will license it to a company and I will get 10% of the royalties. I didn't agree to these terms, but I'll go there on 10/10 at 4 P.M. to discuss it further.

Working on S & T column. Wrote up CONTROLLING INTEREST, DEADLOCK, DETOUR, LINKUP, NIX, POUNCE, UPON MY WORD, and started FINESSE.
