25 Thursday - January 1973
Conversion of St. Paul 25th Day - 340 Days to Come
Call from Frank Thibault. He apologized for not writing and
thanked me for my X'Mas [Christmas] card/letter. He thanked BB for her hospitality.
he has sent me a copy of CONTIGO. It is one he sent to
Crisloid and finally they returned it to him, after a long time.
It has an 8x8 field. 3M is going to go it and they have cut it
to a 6x6 field - he thinks it plays better that way. They were
supposed to put it out this year, but didn't make. Now it scheduled
for 1974. They are also considering a 3-D tubular puzzle by him.
Frank just spoke to Bill Caruson by phone. Bill said that 3M had done
somewhat better in '72 than '71. The 4th quarter was particularly good.
PLOY, however, did not do too well. They are considering repackaging it
and Frank asked my opinion. I suggested giving some impression of a
CHESS game with the moves indicated by the pcs. [pieces] themselves, without actually
saying this.
He is going to call Bob Johnson and ask him about STACTICS, which Hallmark
has had for 6 months, altho Bob promised him fast action.
I told Frank about FOCUS being taken by Hallmark, and also that
Felicia has been told that Hallmark will be at the Stationery Show.
The only game of Frank's that Hallmark has taken is TOTEM.
Frank was instrumental in getting Hallmark to raise their advance to
$500 for two years. Now he thinks we should work for $500 for one year.
He and Jerry D'Arcey will probably be coming together to Toy Fair
the week before 2/15. I had thought that when Jerry said he was
coming with Frank, it was Frank Armbruster. But Frank T. said that
they don't get along too well.
Wrote to Larry Blandin of the INTERNATIONAL GAME SHOW, sending him the promotional information he asked for.
To a party at Simulations to celebrate moving to the 9th floor, with
BB. Dale & Phil there too.
Redmund told me that one of the workers in the art dept. discovered
ACQUIRE and loved it. Redmund told him that I had created it. Bob
Felice's wife said she was a SLEUTH freak and I told her about
the 2-hand version. She teaches in a private school and has used
SLEUTH, and my problem, with 6th, 7th, and 8th graders.
Bob Felice and some of the others played THE RACE TRACK GAME
Showed THE GUIDE TO SIMULATIONS/GAMES FOR EDUCATION AND TRAINING to
Al Nofi. He looked at a few of the entries and then said I could
keep it.
Looked at Issue #3 of CONFLICT. The centerfold game was ASSASSIN!
