December 1976 - Friday 24
359th day - 7 days to come
Thinking of SOLAR SYSTEM. Each player plays a card from
his hand and then they all decide how they will be used
for moving the spaceship. A card can be used to move one
space for each unit in the number, or for changing direction
60° for each unit. The player of the highest card has final
say.
Thinking of CRISIS. The 4 players have numbers from 2 to
5. When they move they move that many "intersections." Each
intersection is marked with a circle divided into four
spaces. [drawing of a circle divided with diagonal lines into 4 quadrants] A player landing at an intersection puts a dot
of his color, and then colors the whole segment when he leaves.
Previously colored segments are added to the player's number to
determine the move, casting out 55 with 6 or more. Probably
RESCUE would be a better name.
Rcd. X'Mas card from Stan Chess. No message.
Rcd. SIGNAL no. 111. Reviews of FORTRESS RHODESIA, SALAMANCA,
FIGHT FOR TOBRUCK (Wellington Wargames), OUTREACH (SPI).
Gave copies of BEYOND SOLITAIRE to Laurie and to Susan Horn. Susan
played BURIED TREASURE, with some help from me. (scored 168.)
(cont. from 12/25) [12/28]
Say that most of the insides were missing. Told her that
I'd do something on my own.
Call from Fabio, in answer to mine of 12/22. Told him about
my idea on the illustrative game of GANG-ABOOT, and I was right.
Asked him to give me the suit scoring values: [Spade]-1, [Heart]-2, [Club]-3,
[Diamond]-4. Asked if it was O.K. when I wrote to David Parlett to say
that I had seen CARDS WITHOUT CARDS. Why not?
Told him about my idea for a book BEYOND PINBALL. He felt that
people might feel cheated if it was just rehashes of PINBALL
in BEYOND SOLITAIRE. I agreed, these would have to be completely
different - and to each other. We'll talk about it.
Told him of a new idea for 2-hand SEARCH.
At supermarket bought box of 25-7"x8" ziploc bags - 69¢.
