27 Monday - October 1975
Veterans' Day - 300th day - 65 days to come
Looked at quite a few books looking for games for THE GAME CUBE.
To Bob Gellman's. Mike Kohner (who once was with Kohner
Bros. before they were taken over) is some kind of consultant
to R.G.I. and sat in on the conference. Discussed and came up
with 30 games as the target. Mike asked my price and I said $15
an hour, and I wouldn't charge for more than 40 hours, even if
it takes longer. Then when I spoke to Bob he said that he only
had $500 budgetted [sic]; I agreed to a flat $500 without keep-
ing tack of the hours. We agreed that I would have all the rules
typed and the necessary diagrams.
They gave me repros of the rules for the present GAME CUBE.
Not too good. Also a CHECKERS set from M.B. with some rules in
the top of the box. Also BACKGAMMON rules from another Itemation
set. A CHESS set is being added to the equipment.
Bob gave me a check for $300 as an advance on 1915 royalties for
PATTON, MACARTHUR, and HOLIDAY. He said that the rest will be
from $1,200 to $1,500.
In the book store on 23rd St. saw a bought a book with
"programmed" instructions for CHESS. Lots of diagrams which
I will be able to use. (94¢ plus tax).
To S.P.I. Had a very pleasant talk with Jim Dunnigan - both social
and business - his and mine.
Checked again with Redmund, and all of my review will be
in no. 53.
Speaking to Richard Berg and Howie Barasch. Howie had a game
in his office THE WAR AT SEA (Jedko) which had the rules
missing. Richard, however, had a set of the rules. Made repros
of the rules, the board, and the markers. Later Howie said
that I could have the set that was in his office. Took it.
Took a copy of THE FAST CARRIERS (boxed) and another (unboxed).
Took two copies each of S&T no 23 (without game, which is discontinued),
no. 50, and no. 51.
Made 10 repros each of WORD RACE and another board game word GAME.
Played 500 RUMMY with dad & Ilka. At their apt. got two calls
from Bob Gellman. One was whether I thought it was nec-
essary to include a doubling cube for BACKGAMMON - which would
cost him 6¢. Told him it really isn't req'd. for children. Can't
remember the 2nd call.
