8/20 8/16 AUGUST 1974 - FRIDAY 23 235TH DAY - 130 DAYS TO COME
Felicia called to say that the Aladdin check came for advances on TOTALLY--, INTERSECTION, PUSHOVER, and THE BRAIN GAME.
Wrote to Steve Wilson mentioning PATTERNS II, DOMINIO BEAD GAME, and SWITCH. Also PENNYROYAL and G&P. And AGOG. Sent repros of my S&T columns #18 thru 27, 29 thru 32, and 34 thru 36. (actually sent 8/22.)
Sent $17.30 to "American Stationary" for "P.E." and "Specialist in Games" stationary, and memos. (Actually sent 8/22.)
[illegible strikeout] To Felicia's. Got my check for $4,500 (which I later deposited in United Mutual). Felicia showed me Alan Newman's SPIN-PONG. There is a field of about 15x15 depressions big enough to hold ping-pong balls with little spare room. Five balls are used, four starting in the corners and the other in the center. A battery operated fan, with the blades removed and a larger rubber washer glued onto the end, is used for getting the balls [illegible strikeout] to jump from one depression to another. A player on his turn operates the "spinner" on one of the balls until it jumps. Object is to get lines of balls, from 2 up to 5, with ascending scores. If a player's jumping ball sets up a new scoring situation, he plays again, etc.
Since there is no wall around the field I found it difficult to get a corner ball to jump. I suggested starting with the 4 corner balls moved in so that they can operated easier.
She showed me RACE SLALOM I DOWNHILL 2 by a new client. There are about 12 tall cardboard cylinders, numbered. These are placed on a plastic runner, in different arrangements according to difficulty desired. A heavy metal cylinder is attached to about 3 1/2 feet of rope. Players in turn hold the rope at the end and attempt to swing it around the cylinders in numerical order, without knocking any down, and working against the clock. (Seemed like fun.)
In connection with Keith Tuggle wanting to change the p&p contracts, I mentioned that he might use the change we made as an excuse for going back on the NO WAY contract. She hopes not.
To G&R. Asked Nan the list price of KGB - $6, RAT RACE - $7, ULCERS - $7, GAME OF NATIONS - $10. She said to list "Franklin Merchandising" as the publisher. Asked her and she gave me a copy of THINK-A-MA-JIG by Peterson.
To S.P.I. Howie Barasch gave me the copy of USAC AUTO RACING GAME that was sent to them, but someone took the copy of MAJOR LEAGUE BASEBALL GAME. There was a letter mentioning that Sid Sackson had reviewed the USAC game. (Then the company was "Midwest Research and Analysis, Inc." - not "Statis-Pro Games" as it is now called.) In the letter he mentions sending the two above games, plus NFL FOOTBALL GAME and NBA BASKETBALL GAME (?). A Hockey game will be sent later. (Made repro of letter.)
