174th Day - 191 Days to Come

Went to breakfast with BB and Dana at the Bismarck restaurant, the treat of Walter and Maxine Dykowski.
Walter showed me the pieces for his CRESCENDO CHESS. (He is not using the name STRATO CHESS because D.D.I. used it for their 3-D CHESS game.) They are CHESS pieces with pegs on the bottom and holes on the top so that they can be stacked. He is writing the rules allowing stacking of only two high. This allows the stack to move first as the top pc. [piece] (I believe) and then as the bottom as part of the same turn. Later he may allow three high stacking. The pcs. are small to allow them to be used with a smaller, cheaper board. Or they can be will be available separately for use with the larger board.
He showed me a number of letters he rcd. [received] from my S&T article and said that he was quite pleased with the response. He also found that they were all very prompt in sending the additional money when he told them of the error in prices.
He said that he hadn't seen the BOOK WORLD review on STRATO TAC-TICS. I gave him the copy of the 1972 booklet that I had brought with me.

At a Whelans that was selling out at 50% off bought a CHECKERS game, called CHECKERMATES, for 2, 3, or 4 players. Also bought a roll containing 3 yards of something like contact - plum color - for $ .98.

To Chicago main library saw the book NEW GAMES TO PLAY that I saw on 6/18. It is for children 3 to 6 years old.
Also saw another bookFUN WITH BRAND NEW GAMES, by Allan A. Macfarlan (New York, Association Press - 1961). It is mainly group games with athletic equipment. There are some "Quiet Games" - but nothing of interest.

The public was admitted to the INTERNATIONAL GAME SHOW, both in the exhibit area and in a large room where games, mainly war, were played.
Met Bill ZumStein, 600 Barton Ave., Evanston, Ill. 60202, who had written to me concerning TICKER TAPE (see 12/19/70 & 1/24/71). He checked both addresses I gave him, but wasn't able to get a copy at either. He has bough INFINITY and likes it. He wondered if I was going to review it in S&T and I told him in the next issue.
Marcy Kubat grabbed me and introduced me to Richard Wilson. He is an ardent fan of mine and has been trying to get another copy of AGOG (why?). Sold him one that I brought with me for $3.00 and autographed it. They also took my card.

Spoke to Alister MacIntyre again. He asked me if I'd be interested in privately published games. Very much so. He said he'd send me them. He particularly wants me to see one called GROW-"A BIOLOGICAL UNIVERSE".
He wanted to buy a copy of AGOG from em but I gave it to him as a partial payment for the games he will be sending
