21 Thursday - June 1973
Corpus Christi - First Day of Summer - 172nd Day - 193 Days to Come
Bob Reiss was at the INTERNATIONAL GAME SHOW ([illegible word crossed out] in Chicago for other business) for a few minutes. Said hello. I asked and he said the p & p games are doing well.
Spoke to Keith Tuggle a few times.
They are sending back INVASION and THE BRAIN GAME since
Felicia wants money for holding them. They like them and
may ask to see them again, if we don't place them elsewhere.
I told him that, realistically, they will probably still be available.
He doesn't know if Kathy has rcd. SPECTRUM yet.
In connection with the 3M p. & p. games they have been
trying to buy a set of the Hoi Polloi games to look at but
haven't been able to find them. If I can find them in
New York I'll send them to him (and he'll pay me for them).
Later in [illegible words crossed out] a dept. store I bought a copy
of a Swedish p & p BATTLE SHIPS for 75¢ and gave it to
Keith. (Wouldn't take money for it.)
He said they have some more "American Greetings" game and
which do I need. I told him BROKEN ENGLISH and FAIR SHAKE.
If they have them he'll send them to me.
Spoke to Larry Blandin. The only two members he has for the
panel are Roger Velhulst and Allan Calhamer. He is sorry
that he never sent me the tape of last year's seminar
or the list of his suggestions. He will place all the
chairs in a circle so that the seminar will be informal.
Larry introduced me to Allan Calhamer. We discussed, among
other things, his game HYPER-SPACE. He had little success
with it. I told him that I had played it and remembered
having some ideas for improvements, though I didn't remember
what they were. Offered to send them to him but
he didn't seem very interested.
Spoke to Bob Johnson. He likes HONORABLE RELATIONS very much
as a puzzle. (He has solved the first one I sent him and
hasn't been able to solve the last.) Burt Huber has rcd. [received]
the finished model - in perfect condition - and they will
be playing it next week. Bob has been propagandizing
Burt on it.
Bob had no word on the orders for the original six puzzle
games. Their operation is being computerized and they
won't know anything until it is completed, at the end of
the month.
Rcd. a review copy of THE WATERGATE SCANDAL, which
was exhibiting at the show. // Also rcd. a copy of TEE OFF
(presumably) by Sam Snead. Actually the man said he had made it up.
To the stores. Saw the following: -
-Brentano's THE CIPHER FILE (which I later remembered I had
