Rcd. [received] a letter from Keith Tuggle. He saw reviews of THE DOT GAME and RACECOURSE (Grid Games) in my S&T column and asked me to obtain copies and send them to him.
Rcd. rules and equipt. [equipment] of THE NAVAL GAME from Allan Calhamer.

Gave copies of CHINESECHEK and DAM-IT! to Anthony Papa. Gave my father the rest of the German translation to do.

Call from Martin Gardner. Scribner's is enthusiastic about doing a book of Pierre Berloquin's puzzles. There are 3 questions to be settled:
1) Will Pierre be able to give Martin a rough translation into English so that Martin can take it from there. Yes.
2) Does Scribner's negotiate with the French publisher or with Pierre?
3) Can Pierre supply the original art work?
We decided that Martin would write to Pierre. Also if I get a call from Pierre I will transmit the questions to him.
The book 100 JEUX ALPHABETIQUES won't be included because it is based on the French language. However Scribner's sometimes publishes books in French for students, etc. They might be interested in doing so with this book.

Called Claude. Not in, but Earl came in for supper while I was on the phone. Spoke to him awhile - nothing about games.

Call from Frank Thibault. Apologized for not sending me a card. He said that he had some ideas for p&p games, of a similar nature to mine in AGOG. He asked if I would be interested in doing a book together with him. Told him of my commitment with Hoi Polloi. Also told him that 3M was interested in looking at p&p games.
He spoke to Keith Tuggle about CONTIGO which they have been considering for several years. Keither wanted some kind of a tie-in to make it more appealing. Frank asked if the Spanish conquistidores (spelling?) [conquistadors] would have played it - since his name for it is Spanish. Told him "no."
He asked about my royalties from 3M. Told him that my check was up in the same proportion as the rise in price from $9.00 to $10.00. Keither told frank that all 3M gets from the rise is 4¢. The rest goes to the retailers.
Incidentally, I asked Frank if he rcd. an advance on CONTIGO. He got $500 and then another payment of $500 for coming down on the royalties (didn't ask him how low.).
Some time ago Bob Johnson told him that TOTEM would be among the first "games" Hallmark came out with. I told him that Felicia had been told that FOCUS and DUEL would be among those coming out next year. Bob also told me.
