4 FRIDAY - AUGUST 1972
217TH DAY - 149 DAYS TO COME

Rcd. ALBION #39. Has rules for a DIPLOMACY variant
called COLD WAR - by Rod Blackshaw.
Had mention of the following additional DIPLOMACY variations : -
ABSTRACTION, ATLANTICA, GAME OF THE CLANS, THE FOUNDATION GAME,
INDIANOMACY, MORDOR VERSUS THE WORLD IV, MYTHOMACY,
SCOTICE SCRIPTI. Also THE GAME OF ANONYMITY, THE LEBLING VARIANT
MICRODIPLOMACY, TWIN-EARTHS DIPLOMACY, THE GAME OF CHAOS,
PARA-TIME DIPLOMACY, THE GAME OF ANARCHY, HYPERSPACE.
Extensive review of DUNKIRK.
Has a mention of WARLORD.
Had offer of rules for NUCLEAR DESTRUCTION (free) and for
BATTLE PLAN (50 [cents]) - both from same source in U.S.

Called A.A.A. and made reservation in Sheraton Inn in Baltimore
for 8/14. Called Marvin Channing first to check on the date.

Arthur called. He & Wald are working on THE MAKING OF THE PRESIDENT
and CASINO ROYALE, both of which I am also working on.
Since they are just about finished with the former,
we agreed that they'll work on that, while I work on
the latter. (No argument.)

Alex Cockburn, who it turns out, is a freelance writer for
the LONDON TIMES here for lunch and a long interview.
After I saw it was running long I started making money
to add to the set of FIGHT CITY HALL to give to Wexler.
Gave Alex a copy of SLEUTH, a copy of AGOG (which he said
he'd get the paper to pay for - the full $6.95), one of
the three sets of rules for GROUP THERAPY, S & T #32,
and the rules for TEMPO, ODD OR EVEN, and INTERPLAY.
He said he was sorry, but he had thrown away the cover
from the BALI box, but Felicia had said he could keep it.
His family in Ireland has a collection of books from the 1890's
and he thinks there are some on games. When he goes back
he will check and send me any I don't have.
He contacted the people at the New York TIMES Magazine
section. They might be interested in an article on games too.
He should know in a week or two. (They pay $750 if the
article is used. $300 if they assign it but don't use it.)
At Brentano's he saw another psychological game.
I TRUST YOU IMPLICITLY.

He also gave me a N.Y. address : - [personal address and phone omitted for privacy].

Remembered that in the past week or so someone - I can't
remember who - mentioned COUP D'ÉTAT. It is a game
based on taking over a city, with the objective of occupying
various key points. (It was Omar DeWitt - see 7/21)
