19 WEDNESDAY - JULY 1972
201ST DAY - 165 DAYS TO COME
Thought of an idea for improving the money balance in
THE GENTLE ART OF POLITICS. Have 3 different values
on each card identified by (*) (**) and (***).
Rcd. a letter from Don Turnbull. He rcd. EXECUTIVE DECISION &
SLEUTH. He hopes to get issues 1 to 12 of ALBION in the
mail to me in the next few days. Mentions FACTS IN FIVE,
BAZAAR; MINE A MILLION; the Foyles catalog; HIGH FINANCE;
THE STOCK MARKET GAME (A.H.); S & T, BATTLE OF STALINGRAD,
WAR IN THE EAST; 4000 A.D.; Graeme Levin (who rcd.
AGOG and is impressed) and GAMES & PUZZLES; Robert Abbott and CONSTRUCTION, ELEUSIS, and ULTIMA.
While I was out Dane rcd. a call from Carl Eisenberg
who wants me to call back. Another caller who said he'd
call back but didn't leave his name. (Later found out
it was Phil Orbanes.)
Getting JUNGLE RACE and FAIRY TALE GAME into shape
for tomorrow.
(cont. from 7/20) [7/20]
player must do sentences in 3 different tenses.
Auxiliary verbs such as have, had, etc. are "free" when used with
another verb. In one round the same word can be used
twice but once it is used in a round a marker is placed
on it and it can't be used in a later round. (Rough idea.)
To Reiss Associates and then to Carl Eisenberg's
office at 150 Broadway (where he used to have his office).
He said the Hoi Poloi [Hoi Polloi] is definitely going ahead with a
series of inexpensive games. Either I can supply them
or they will get them elsewhere. They'd like about 6 as a
start, but they can be fed at intervals rather than all at once.
He said there would be advances. I said I'd have to talk
to Phil Orbanes. He said he didn't know why, but I said I wouldn't
go behind Phil's back. He called Phil and we had a three way
discussion on a conference phone. A little discussion as to whose
idea it was to do p. & p. games. Phil & I thought it was
Herb Hochstetter. Carl said it was Manny * Lefkowitz.
We discussed getting the 6 games back from Bob Hallowell ^XANDO, etc.
(who is almost certainly going under) but Reiss doesn't want Hallowell to
know. Phil and I said that we'd supply the games and will
go to Carl's Monday morning to discuss it after
talking together.
Reiss has an arrangement with TWA to use the games on the
planes.//* He wanted them to compete with 3M's Gamettes.
To Simulations, but not to see Phil who I knew was leaving before.
Spoke to Al Nofi about the complaints about non-
