SATURDAY 18 OCTOBER St. Luke, Evangelist Alaska Day (Alaska) 1969 291st day - 74 days to come

Visited Albert Field (see 10/13). He has the largest collection of cards in the world, which he will donate to the Metro- politan Museum, arrangements having been made. The old Belgian cards (which I got from Goldwasser at the University Pl. Bookstore) were probably new to him and I traded for a set of CARD DOMINOES put out by U.S.P.C. in 1906. For $6 (raised from $5.25 by BB) I bought:-

  • THE BOOKIE:- A horserace card game. No rules.
  • HANAFUDA:- The Japanese flower cards, std. size rather than the small ones I have.
  • A GAME OF THE STATES:- A quiz game with 70 cards, (c) 1887.
  • WORD-O-GRAM:- Letter cards. No rules and no date. Probably an imitation of LEXICON, CROSSWORD.
  • KLEEN-UP:- Just the rules and pictures of the cards. A trivial HEARTS game. (Filed in "Misc. Card Games" folder.)
  • ZOOM:- A children's card game. (do.)

Gave me the phone number of a dealer who handles cards & books on cards and who has non-standard material - probably at pretty high prices. He called her and asked about the price of THE DEVIL'S PICTURE-BOOKS. She has one for $27.50, which it isn't worth to me. He told her I would be calling her. { K. Gregory, BU8-2119

Field has been corresponding with Lech Pijanowski for a short time and will be trading cards with him.

Sent copies of A GAMUT OF GAMES to Haar Hoolim, Lech Pijanowski, and Warren Buell. (Sent them at "Book" rates - only 28¢ overseas.)

Called Fay Baker & agreed to send her two letters, one saying that we are partners in TREASURE HUNT and that she could promote it as she saw fit; the other saying that we share the game 50-50, and authorizing her to involve others, giving equal cuts from our shares. Also told her I'd look at my rules with an eye to adding something about players be- ing able to anticipate where the others wanted to go. [crossed out sentence.] She saw Sinden and another big shot at Bell Laboratories and showed them my game and asked whether they would like to join me on working on it. They said there was no point in taking my money. The game was a finished game of strategy. A very interesting game.
