TUESDAY 7 OCTOBER 1969 280th day - 85 days to come
Called Pierce Organization and spoke to Jan. Asked her about the article in last Tuesday's Times. She said it was on design, rather than games per se. I asked and she answered that she hadn't heard from Random House. I'll have to check with Jean Ennis or Diane Jaust about this. The following Magazines will probably have articles on games in their December issues:- LADIES HOME JOURNAL, REDBOOK, PLAYBOY, BETTER HOMES & GARDENS, HARPER'S BAZAAR. I'll let her know when the PACE article appears. I'll send her two copies of STRATEGY & TACTICS with the reviews of FEUDAL & TWIXT.
To Random House to meet with Sally Kovalchick. She told me that A GAMUT OF GAMES would be included in their Christmas ad in the book review sections. There probably wouldn't be any individual ads for it before X'mas. I told her about the S&T mailing and she'll check if there is any advertising copy prepared and will get back to me as soon as possible. Again discussed the possibility of ads in S&T and the NFFF GAMESLETTER (gave her copy of first and repro of 2nd). Also the 3 trade publications. She said she would talk to Diane Jaust tomorrow morning and have her call me. She gave me another copy of the book.
The 20 copies of A GAMUT OF GAMES I ordered came. Some were damaged in handling.
BB looked at the 9/30/69 NEW YORK TIMES. Article on ex- pensive games with an artistic flavor. The magazine ART IN AMERICA commissioned artists to prepare material for old games and also some new games. The results will be in the November issue. (BB's notes filed in "Articles from Periodicals" folder.)
Fay Baker called. Wants BB to do some research on ratings of TV game shows, etc. If not she will have to hire someone to do it and we will split the bill. I told BB nothing doing. That is a business expense and it comes out of her 50%.
The Post had an ad for { Game-of-the-Month Club, Inc. 654 Church Ave. Woodmere, N.Y. 11598 This is obviously different than the one in New Jersey.
