THURSDAY 24 JULY Pioneers' Day (Utah) 1969 205th day - 160 days to come
Rcd. a telephone call from Jim Dunnigan & Phil Orbanes. Jim told me he was taking over STRATEGY & TACTICS since no one else would do it. Arranged with Phil for him and his wife to come for supper tomorrow night. Jim called again in the evening and we discussed his ideas for S.&T. He will drop the subtitle "A Journal of American War Gaming" and will try to move it into the more general field of adult games, but slowly. He will include questionaires with the issues to get a "feedback". He will be able to put out an issue for about $400 while it cost Chris about $1100. He doesn't think he will have any trouble raising the money for the next two issues, which are overdue. I said I could contribute some but he doubts if it will be necessary. I'll give Phil my column to deliver to Jim when Phil comes tomorrow. Phil will also be involved in S.&T.
Arthur called to ask when I got my copy of PACE mag- azine. Told him about a week ago, the August edition. He is interested in the Sept. issue when he is supposed to appear (with Wald) and his new game POWER. I told him about HYPER-SPACE and the use of terrain squares. He is not concerned since they have elimin- ated them from POWER - although the Pace article, if it is printed will still have them. I suggested setting up a NYGA meeting at Michelle's. He said he doesn't want to go there any more. I asked him whether in ALCHEMY a player could jump over his own cards onto an opponent's card that wasn't in the proper relationship of rank, etc. He said no, the relationship has to be right. I suggested that it might be a good idea to allow it [crossed out] and he thought it might be. He'll think about it.
