5/15 SATURDAY 17 MAY Armed Forces Day 1969 137th day - 228 days to come
Arthur called. Burn to Wald's with another writer for supper. They listened to Wald talk all evening, played a little THREE, looked at the HIGH DECK, and were quite interested in POWER. May get in touch with Arthur to see it.
Realized that I didn't have the rules for the following games
in my files:
TUMBLE LOGS (Cadaco). There are three dice of different colors
and "logs" of three sizes of colors matching the dice.
There is a platform with a moat around it. Players in
turn throw the three dice and try to place the
number of logs on the platform corresponding to the
color throw (like 6 red calls for 6 red logs to be
placed). Score for each placed and penalties (I think)
for these that fall off. Each player works from the posi-
tion left by the previous player. Play till a player reaches
500 points or until all logs are placed, in which case
high score winds. (Fairly complete idea.
SCRABBLE CROSSWORD CUBES GAME (S & R)
One version of this game is similar to the others where
the dice are thrown and arranged in crossword fashion
and each word is scored, and each unused [crossed out] cube
is deducted. A more interesting version is as follows:
14 cubes. Each player can take from 2 to 4 tosses. Object
is to form 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, & 8 letter word. Once a word of
a length is formed that length can't be used again. In each
toss score values of each word (crossword fashion and same
letter used in two words is scored twice). Deduct unused letters.
Players may stop before using 4 tosses, even if they
haven't made all words.
Making all words in 2 tosses is grand slam - scores 50
points. (Must be an 8 & 7 in one toss and the others in another
toss. See example.)
