5/7 FRIDAY 16 MAY 1969 136th day - 229 days to come

Claude called. For $3.50 he picked up a copy of EQUATIONS (the new edition), KRYPTO, and ARENA. Told him he could keep the latter two. He also got 16 copies of the GO MONTHLY REVIEW. I'll look at these and then pass them on to Wald.

The request for an extension on CARRÉ came from X. (Claude also received one for DEDUCTION.) TRIPLE CROSS was signed later.

Called Stan Harris and asked if the beginning of the week after next would be O.K. for the SNAFU rules. yes. He'll call me Monday after next to set up a date. They are now pricing TAM-BIT at $3 and AIRLINE probably at $6. They are setting up a review board which will make a weekly test of all new items, including game. Once the present three games are off the ground they will want to look at more of mine.

Arthur called while I was out and I called him back. Pelham Burn contacted Wald and is going there tonight for supper. Arthur will call me with a report.

The May TOYS & NOVELTIES came.

At a Japanese store saw a game (from California) in a booklet form: THE NAME DROPPER'S GAME. There are a number of identical sheets. Each has the 26 letters of the alphabet listed with 4 spaces next to each, 2 white, 1 light grey, and 1 dark grey. Each player gets one sheet. A letter is chosen for the game and players then must think of famous, or in- famous, characters or people whose second name starts with that latter. These are placed on the sheet in a space next to the letter corresponding to the first letter in the first name. Players score 1 point for each name in a white square. Players score 3 points for each name in a light grey space and 5 for a dark grey, only if they are the only one with that name. If others have it they get no score for it.

Called Lee Horn. She'll send Pelham Burn ACQUIRE and BAZAAR, and will try to get him copies of MONAD & VENTURE which she doesn't have yet.

Tom Atwater called me at the office. Rockwell of Stancraft tells him the Alex's games will be out this year, tho not in the catalog. Still no contract however. He is interested (cont. on 5/7)
