FRIDAY 14 FEBRUARY St. Valentine's Day 1969 45th day - 320 days to come

Thought of the following plan for speeding up SPELLBINDER. Each time a word is taken from a pool, a new letter is dealt from each pack to the pool immediately. This will cut out almost 2/3 of the transferring of cards from the display.

Stan Harris called. Createk wants to sell their line and he wants my opinion. Told him that I was familiar with the line. We will get together next week. He also has two new games he wants me to look at. He also asked me for the names of the books which have puzzles like STAR-K-RAZY. He wants to send them to the inventor, a widow who needs royalty payments to live on. He also said that they would like to seriously consider TAM-BIT. I told him that I still have to work out the 3 & 4 hand versions.

In evening looked thru books, Martin Gardner's columns, & Patents for material on the STAR-K-RAZY puzzle. Found the following:- FUN FOR THE MONEY Patent # 840,741.

BB went to Dover and bought me:

  • THE MASTER BOOK OF MATHEMATICAL RECREATIONS
  • NEW PUZZLES IN LOGICAL DEDUCTION

Also brought me a Dover catalog and put me on a mailing list for books on math & recreation.

Rcd. THERBRED from C. Ljohn. Nothing. He says he is coming out with a new GAME, a variation of CHECKERS in about 60 days.

Rcd. a letter and other material from Tom Shaw of Avalon-Hill. Their new games are ANZIO and C&O/B&O. I can get more information at 200 5th Ave. A pleasant letter.

Rcd. a long letter from Lech Pijanowksi. Has 3 new games, 1 by a friend and 2 by himself:- COLORINO, NINE GAME, SQUARE. Sent me his columns on AGON & POLISH CHECKERS. Also sent the name of the Marabout book I wanted:- LE GUIDE MARABOUT DES JEUX DE SOCIETÉ. A lot more information, and some more requests.
