THURSDAY 18 JULY 1968 200th day - 166 days to come

Arthur called to confirm the meeting tomorrow. He is looking forward to showing MARRY & ALCHEMY (the large version he mentioned 7/11).

Bought a 13/32" hole punch to use for FITTING & PROPER.

At Childcraft bought SQUARE, a set made in Austria. Looked at GAME INVENTOR'S KIT (S & R). Will buy it even- tually.

At home I checked and I had a copy of SQUARE published in England and bought in Copenhagen. Each set is good for 2 or 3 players. A double set is good for up to 6 players, so I'll keep the 2nd set.

Jim Dunnagan called. He and Phil Orbanes are busy with a lot of projects. They have bought out McGraw Hill's educational game line (which neither of think is much). At first this was just to counter criticism of their war games. Now they think they make go into a complete line, up to the college level. He thinks that BAZAAR, without the oriental trappings, would be what they want. He is finishing up a stock market GAME for Avalon-Hill. It is played with some 400 cards. Each card has an effect with limits which are divided into 6 possibilities, determined by the throw of a die. He has all the features of the stock market, also commodity speculation & currency speculation, etc. 1914 is selling very well and he expects about $3,000 for the half year royalty, the first real money he had made on games. He will come to visit in a week or two and will bring me a copy of 1914 and BATTLE OF BRITAIN and a rough copy of his stock market GAME for me to look at. Renwal is taking the playing mechanism of VIET NAM and using it for an Israel-Arab game. That is Phil & Jim are doing it for Renwal. Looked at the card game PATTERNS in the 1965 game diary with idea of playing it at N.Y.G.A. tomorrow.
