She is getting advance degrees in folklore, which includes a study of
games. She didn't seem in search of any particular information.
She thought it would be nice for me to meet some of her professors,
and possibly to lecture a group on games said I'd try to arrange
it sometime next fall.
He is working on computers and is interested in coming up with
games that can be worked on a computer.
George is fooling around with an idea he calls DRAGO. Taking
ten digits in combinations of three: - 012, 013, 014,...... 789
(only 1 of a digit is used) there are 120 combinations ( he said, I
haven't checked him). Taking a 3x3 bound there are 8 ways of
having a line of 3. There for 15 boards would have 120 rows of 3.
He is trying to set up 15 boards that would include the 120
rows. So far he hasn't been successful. He is thinking about a
Bingo type game played using 3-20 sided dice with two sets
of the digits on each. (FUTURE has a 20 sided die. George said
there are some Japanese wholesale places that handle them.)
George Knows a Caltech professor who claims to have invented a
game very much like LASCA. George wanted a reference to show
him. I showed him MATHEMATICAL RECREATIONS by Kraitchek.
George thought I might might be interested in contacting the professor because he makes up games just for the challenge
and then forgets about them.
His name is Dr. Donald Knuth.
We played a game of BAZAAR and found that the black
backgrounds were rather hard on the eyes.
George and Jo Ann started a game of FOCUS and when Jo Ann had
just about lost I took over and pulled it out. They liked it and
I gave them booklets.
