MONDAY 8 JANUARY 1968 8th day - 358 days to come

Bill Bentzin called. He apologized about Forb FORBES MAGAZINE, tho it wasn't his fault. He was rather angry at the editors for making him go to the expense of getting pictures of ACQUIRE and then not use them. He asked me about other political games, in connection with MR. PRESIDENT. I told him about POLITICS, CAMPAIGN, CONVENTION, ELECTION '68. In evening looked at the latter three to refresh my memory.

Thinking of a GAME idea. Use 2 set of "double six dominos". Place them face up in a quadrille arrangement . This represents a terrain. Players have pcs., preferrably transparant bingo markers, which move from space to space orthagonally. Each player in trun has a specific number of points to expand in movement. A move costs as many points as the difference between the two spaces. The points can be expanded on as many pcs. as desired. When at the end of a player's turn there are pcs. adjacent to each other of opposing forces, there is a battle. Each player shakes one die for each pc. he has in the battle, including diagonally. Or perhaps diagonally should count for half a die. Also take into consideration higher ground. Victories can be of different kinds depending on the differences in the dice totals. (Rough idea.) The idea of one die for each pc. comes from an old patent.

Tried to call Harry Cunningham but first his line was busy and then he had left.

The FOIL game came from Bill Caruson. But not the new rules.

Rcd. short letters from Milt Abrams & Haar Hoolim.

(cont. from 1/9) [1/9] subscription for Will Erickson. I told him about the leads I found in the Playthings Directory and how "Block House", "Embree" and "Wolverine" did not look promising. He told me not to go to 200 Fifth Ave. unless he contacts me to do so. He said that Bob Claude is sending me the four Educational GAMEs they have put out. Claude is also quite interested in seeing my Geographical GAME. [crossed out] I told Harry that my time was between 2 and 3 hours.

Later I was thinking further about my Geographical Game. The board could show only the outline of the states, while [crossed out] plastic overlays could have the various different information so that play could be with known information or with players depending on their memory. Also thinking of having BB work right along with me in all phases of the game. In addition to the ideas of 11/14/67, want to add the products of the states. Reaching a state could give a player (cont. on 1/7)
