11 WEDNESDAY - JUNE 1975
KAMEHAMEHA DAY (HAWAII) - ST. BARNABAS - 162ND DAY - 203 DAYS TO COME
Rcd. letter from Al Bagg saying FOUR-ARMED BANDIT was being
returned. There is an opening for a game that will demonstrate well
on TV.
Called Felicia to tell her. Was expecting her to wash her hands of
me, but instead she was sympathetic. She said my games were too
different for the big companies. But she'd try to place them
with the smaller companies.
Alan Newman's games, she said, were not as good as mine, but
they are gimmicky and commercial. He is going by train to
Parker Brothers to show them two new ones; one she thinks is
great and the other pretty good.
She brought up PAYDAY as a game I won't like at all, but she
hears that it is selling great.
She will also try to find me book publishers. I tried to slow
her down on this saying I needed a vacation from games. She asked
for, and I agreed, to the regular 10% literary agent's fee.
Call from Felicia. A little while ago she told me of a writer who had
written some books for a publisher. The publisher wants 5 more but
he is not anxious to do them. The publisher is Ace Publications
and the three books, by Joseph & Lenore Scott, are
PENCIL PUSHERS, PUZZLES FOR EVERYONE, FUN & GAMES WITH CARDS.
They are at Brentano's and I said I'd look at them to see if I
felt like working on something similar.
Told her that BEYOND TIC-TAC-TOE was doing well. Also that there
was still an opening possible opening with Scribner's for AGOG. This after she said she'd check with publishers for paperback on it.
Call from Felicia. She said she was going to call Ron Weingartner
and asked who signed the letter - Al Bagg.
She asked about the deduction game (DARN CLEVER) for Lowe. Told
her it certainly wouldn't show up on T.V. She suggested showing
it to Aladdin but I sort of let that pass, saying I was discouraged
(which is quite true).
Call from Felicia. She is going to check with Harvey Gardner of
Gold Medal, Fawcett Publications about the deal they were supposed
to be interested in. (See 11/12/74.)
She asked about Steve Curtis and whether she should call him.
Told her he was supposed to call her concerning getting together in
July. But who knows if he'll stay in business. Felicia thought
that FOUR-ARMED-BANDIT would be good for Gammon's line.
