JULY 1974 - SUNDAY 14 SIXTH SUNDAY AFTER PENTECOST - 195TH DAY - 170 DAYS TO COME
Played thru a 4-hand game of OIL STRIKE! by myself to see if it is better to have 20 or 25 points as the winning amount. 20 seems to be better.
Went over the rules for SPY, OIL STRIKE!, FINANCIER, THE GREAT RACES, WORDS X THREE, and PAYOFF and got them into final form. BB typed them in the evening.
Call from Claude. Discussed his game RIP-OFF. I suggested dealing out all - or most of - the cards and then have spaces on the board that allow for looking at other player's cards - object or title - but not all of them. Other spaces call for passing of cards around the table - in some cases by players choosing the card to pass and in others by picking at random. And a Title-Object pair can only be registered after getting the object card on a "swindle." Claude said this could actually be another game - but I said that his "swindle" mechanism was the foundation. He'll think about incorporating some of the ideas so as to make the best possible game.
Told him about the date for 7/26 with the Rothman's. O.K. Also that Issy may join us Monday.
Talked a little about Earl and his connection with Quixotic Games - Wald & Claude's company. But Earl thought of the name.
I asked Claude about the meeting with Jules Cooper. He was very gracious with them and gave them about 1 1/2 hours. However he wasn't in the slightest interested in commissioning games.
[Illegible strikeout] Jules asked if any of us were working full time
time on games and Wald said that I'd gone back to engineering.
Claude said it was just three days a week.
Wald said that I will do consulting work for the, but that I don't want to do anything that will be unfair to Felicia. Jules told them that "she needs Sid much more that he needs her."
They played MATOCA (why?). Jules didn't seem to think that the Alabe line is very commercial.

can be built in that country - from 1 to 4. For instance, the
U.S. can support 4 companies in each of the four commodities.
Without going into details, players get cards giving them
control of a certain commodity in a certain country (there
are 80 cards). They build one company when they get the
card and then can build the rest on any turn. Players
collect when others land on their country - from $1,000,000 $100,000
for one company to $ 100,000,000 1,000,000 for 4 companies. They also
collect from the bank when they land on own. When a player
completely develops two commodities in a country he controls
that country and collects double. When controls three
countries on a side has a "block" and collects double
