JULY 1974 - TUESDAY 2 183RD DAY - 182 DAYS TO COME
Call from Phil Orbanes. Actually he told me about "Amway" and THE GOOD EARTH today.
Doing some thinking about the game and came up with the idea of cards with pictures of seeds, then plants in different developments, up to fully grown. Other cards show pictures of insects and weeds and can be played on opponents to hold them up. A water card is needed in order to grow and an opponent can cover it with a hot sun card, Win when complete two plants. (Rough idea.) Everything will be done with pictures and no reading - except for the rules - will be req'd.
Called Felicia. Not in. Left word that I was interested in hearing about Hallmark.
Wrote to Thomas Galloway and ordered the following games as mentioned in SUPERNOVA. Sent check for $2.05. EARTHSEA DIPLOMACY, LUNATIC DIPLOMACY (I, I, III), SPACE HUK, WAYLAND MADNESS, HEXTERMINATION, DERCH-ACH.
Didn't hear from Connie Wiener so I called her. She said the message wasn't delivered to her. She can't make it for lunch this Wednesday. She'll call me next Monday or Tuesday to set up a date.
Call from Claude. He and Wald met John Lawless at Hasbro today. They for the $4,000 advance. Lawless liked Wald's Cartel GAME very much. He also liked the basic mechanism of Claude's RIP-OFF but thought there was too much interplay between players. Claude asked him if he prefers POKER or BRIDGE. He prefers the latter. Claude at work so kept call short. He'll call tomorrow with more details.

To "Gamut of Games." Phil Orbanes told me that John Wexo, who did WOMAN & MAN and SOCIETY TODAY for PSYCHOLOGY TODAY Magazine (altho I didn't see his name on them) has ideas for interesting other magazines in publishing games - for sale rather that for inclusion in the magazine - and "Gamut" and I will be involved. (Later realized that I got few details.) Tried to get Phil to discuss my real prospects but he kept interrupting.
Al Zygier in and the three of us discussed the art work for FINANCIER, SPY, WORDS X THREE, OIL STRIKE!, THE GREAT RACES, and PAY-OFF. (Actually Phil got bored and listened to the radio.) Phil ran off copies of the games for Al and the two new sheets I did for me.
Marty Kornblum - who works for Reiss, but is involved in deals for himself - in and we discussed THE GOOD EARTH. Amway is
