1 MONDAY - JULY 1974 DOMINION DAY (CANADA) - 182ND DAY - 183 DAYS TO COME

Call from John Grafton (his number 255-3755) of Dover. They are interested in 50 GIER NO KOLOROWYCH PLANSZACH but would like to see a sample of my translation. I'll prepare two of the games as a sample. By the end of July is fine.

Called Phil Orbanes. In conference and he called me back. The fellow from Reiss who is involved with Am premiums has a connection with "Amway" and they want a game, THE GOOD EARTH, to go along with a planter. It is for ages 5 to 8. Phil wants me to come up with one.

In redoing REALM for the new packaging he wants to correct the problem in the first game - "Classic" - where the first player can always force a win. He wants to consult with me on it and will pay me a consulting fee - altho, as I reminded him, I am getting a small royalty for the game.

Made a date for Wednesday afternoon to go over there things and to talk about my future with "Gamut."

Called Connie Wiener (see 6/26). In conference and left word for her to call me. Didn't.

In the talk with Phil Orbanes he said that he would like me to have layouts of my p&p games to go over with Al Zygier on Wednesday. Told him I had already done OIL STRIKE! and THE GREAT RACES. In evening drew up FINANCIER and SPY on a sheet. WORDS X THREE presents no problem in reducing it to 6 1/4" 5" x 6 1/4."

Looked at REALM and thinking about some ideas for fixing "Classic." 1) I had this some time ago. The players set up the field by taking turns. A record is kept then the game is played counting the moves the first player makes until he wins. Then the game is replayed with the other player going first. Player to win in less moves wins the round.

2) The first player moves one space. The 2nd then moves 2, either with one man or with two different. 1st player then moves 3, dividing them at will. 2nd then does 4 and after this each does 4. All other rules remain the same.

3) The 2nd player at any time can make 2 moves on a turn. Then the first player has the privilege of 2 moves when- ever he wants. Etc.

Called Claude and spoke to Anne. Claude and Wald saw John Lawless of Hasbro today and got the $4,000 advance. Lawless liked Wald's cartel GAME very much. He also liked the basic mechanism of Claude's RIP-OFF, but has some reservations. Claude will call me tonight from Wald have a [illegible strikeout] date tomorrow with John Lawless at Hasbro. He'll call me after.
