Call from Martin Gardner. He is was visited by a mathematician, a friend of John Horton Conway, who teaches in Canada - John McKay (pronounced McKey). At the university is a Czech, second name Chvatal, who told McKay about a game popular in Europe, played with 6 red and 6 blue poker chips. Name 3 UP. I told Martin that this was done in this the U.S. by Lakeside - and that Hank Simmons is connected with the parent company. Told him that the game was invented by Howard Wexler and Martin took his address.

According to McKay, Chvatal has a perfect strategy for the game. If so Martin might like to run it in his column, especially since it doesn't need equipment. Described the equipment in the packaged game and read him the rules. He spoke to Cirker of Dover about 50 GIER NA KOLOROWYCH PLANSZACH I may be hearing from him about the translation. Martin asked me if I had heard from Cirker about AGOG and I explained the problem about getting the rights back. Mentioned that he had said that he might have a paper- back connection for it and he didn't seem to remember. I told him that not to be concerned about it, but he said he'd check around as soon as it i the book is returned to me. Drew up STRIKE OIL OIL STRIKE! and THE GREAT RACES on one sheet.

Martin told me that he saw a pile of AGOG in a book store.

about 70% sold on it if they can buy the planter, seeds, and soil, and game from us for $1.60 (so that they can retail it for $7.00). Discussed the entire project and I added some worthwhile input. they liked my idea for using cards with pictures. I'll hold up on future work until Marty checks out the available seeds. (Later Phil told me that Marty said that he was happy to be working with me.)

Phil had G&P #26 (and I still haven't rcd. #25). It has my article on SLEUTH and a reader's word game - QUIRK among oth and the 2nd part of an article on early English game patents, among other things. Asked Phil to look at #25 but he couldn't locate it.

Took about 25 more of the small boxes that had been used for shipping BRIGET BRIDGETTE.

Called BB and she had a call from Felicia. Hallmark is putting out games, but not mine. BB - didn't ask her any details.

Rcd. letter from Bob Gellman with the counters for MACARTHUR and the R.G.I. catalog sheet: VINCE LOMBARDI'S GAME, OSCAR FAST BREAK PRO BASKETBALL, MOVIE MOGULS, MOVIE STARS, PATTON, MACARTHUR and WEEKEND IN VEGAS.
