6/16 JUNE 1974 - THURSDAY 20 171ST DAY - 194 DAYS TO COME
Call from Phil Orbanes. Waldimir Zedwitz will be putting more money into "Gamut of Games" and it will stay independent of Reiss. In fact they are getting a new sales rep - one that hasn't been in games so far. They will redesign the packaging into larger boxes so that they can compete with Parker and M.B. [Milton Bradley] in the dis- counters (Manny, at Reiss, is also thinking of doing that with their games.)
Phil is looking into the possibility of putting out a "Six-Pack" of p&p games under the "Gamut of Games" label. If so he will use those that we prepared for Reiss. (Told him that SUPERGHOSTS is being considered by 3M - but there are plenty of others.) His contract with "Gamut" gives him full 5% royalties for any games he invents him- self, so our arrangement will be the same as before - an even split, with 10% to I-Q.
Phil may do some contract work for Reiss - primarily plastic puzzles. This is more to keep their good will then for the money - he is kept bust enough at "Gamut."
I asked how he hears the first five p&p games - CHINESE CHEK, etc. - will do this year. Not as good as last year. There is an outsid[e] possibility that Reiss may repackage the games for supermarket sales. If this goes thru they will probably want a new batch too.
I asked about getting the new D.D.I. games to review -
XAVIERA'S GAME, etc. He is sure that I can get them at
Reiss'. Also ask may ask me to submit games, since
he won't be working there.
I told him about meeting Carl Eisenberg at Stationary Show. He thinks that the puzzles Carl wants me to work on are very "iffy." However, it is best to keep good relations with carl in case he straightens himself out and make a go of his new company.
Called Felicia. Still no word on the package with SPACE BOXES, TOTALLY, and FOREIGN INTRIGUE. Aladdin hasn't rcd. it and she has started a tracer with UPS. It takes 10 working days. Their maximum insurance is $100 a package.
I asked if Aladdin had started looking at the other things she sent them. Not yet.
She and the gal who did the "Biblical Garden Kit' for O-I want to go to Waterbury, Conn. to interest a "nut" there in handling it. Steve Radash offered to drive them, but she and the gal would rather go with BB and me. The gal, who has written some cook books, will have us for supper at her house in Greenwich, Conn. I said it sounds like fun.
Felicia decided that she'd try to contact Bob Johnson at Hallmark to see what's doing. She'll call me back if she learns anything. (cont. on 6/16)
