19 WEDNESDAY - JUNE 1974 170TH DAY - 195 DAYS TO COME
Rcd. June PLAYTHINGS. Nothing new.
Dale brought me a package of a dozen lines 8 1/2 x 11 pads. Also 2 packages of 5x3 index cards. For Father's Day.
Call from Wald. He and Claude went to a meeting with a new man at Hasbro today. (Didn't get his name. But Paul Sullivan is still in overall charge.) They want 2 games and will pay $5,000 each, guaranteed - according to Wald. They will pay $2,000 down on each at once.
One game is to be based on a "con game" - name RIP-OFF. The other GAME is to be based on Cartels. I checked with Wald on the kind of thing they had in mind and it is to use dice to move on the board - with all the action taking place on the board. Nothing to compete with ACQUIRE at all.
Wald said that he'd like me, and Earl if he will come back from Greece in time, to work with them. If we don't, Wald and Claude want to give Earl and me 5% each off the top for future good will.
The new Hasbro man who is the marketing director, said that the trouble with Claude's game - DOUBLE DECKER - was that too much of the action took place off the board. Claude told him that his original rules called for more action on the board. They had lost his rules and his address too!
Hasbro wants us to form a company and they will make the payments to the company. Wald has the partnership papers ready for signing, but I said that I could only come in if it is a corporation. He agreed and suggested that he and Claude be the original partners until we have made some money to use for incorporating. Fine with me. (But how about "Capital Gains"?)
Told Wald I'd talk with Claude and think about the deal. Called Claude and spoke to Anne. Sounded her out as to whether she would object to my coming into the deal. Seems as if she wants me to. In her talk with Claude it seemed less definite that they are committing themselves to taking the two games. Only the original $4,000 is assured in her opinion. Short call from Claude and we'll talk about it more when we get together this Saturday.
Incidentally, Wald said that the Hasbro man said that they would be wanting us to do a couple of games each year.
Called Jerry D'Arcey to see how he was feeling. Spoke to Kathy. He has recovered from his heart attack and is working on EASY COME-ESAY GO.
