30 THURSDAY - MAY 1974
150TH DAY - 215 DAYS TO COME

To Felicia's. She said that she heard from Harold Frankel. Kohner
decided to have Stubbman do all their developing. He sent
someone over with the models - including POP-SHAPE-AND SHATTER,
TAKE-A-WORD, and HARD HAT - so that she could show them today.
J.R. Kelso and "Bud" Thomas from Aladdin came about 10 a.m. (Exchanged
cards.) Showed them the following: SPACE BOXES; INTERSECTION;
EARTHSPIONAGE (which Felicia kept pushing); PUSHOVER; HARD HAT (the
board game); LUXURY LINER; SPEED DASH!!; SPECTRUM;
SHAPE & SHATTER (told them that I could come up with a pure
strategy version for 2 players); WIDGET; THE BRAIN GAME (altho the
rules still have to be written); RUN A ROUND; FOREIGN INTRIGUE; ZIGGURAT;
EVEN WORSE; BOXED IN; TOTALLY; SQUARE ROOT; SIJJEH; SHINGLES;
RIGHT ANGLES (Kelso mentioned BLOCK-OFF. I agreed that there was a
similarity, but that RIGHT ANGLES was better); FREE-FORM (played with Kelso
and beat him); HEX-MATCH (played part of a game with Thomas. We
were all tired by this time and the colors were an eye strain.). Felicia
went through the following very quickly: BEAT POLLUTION; TRIAD;
TORTS-THE GAME OF SUIT AND COUNTERSUIT; AVARICE; ESPIONAGE;
O.K. JOE'S.
Meeting lasted till about 3:30 and we went out to lunch at Fil's.
Kelso mentioned a game from the Philippines called
THE GAME OF GENERALS. I asked, and he said he'd send me a repro
of the rules and info on the manufacturer.
Kelso mentioned seeing a game that was the "ultimate" in weird word
games - with pcs. of letters. It is called BEYOND WORDS (see 2/18).
I mentioned that I had made some drawings on possible molds for
SPACE BOXES. Kelso said he's like to see it, and also my write up
of TRIPPPLES.
They asked Felicia what would constitute good sales for a
new game like TRIPPPLES. She said 500,000 and they said either
that they had made that - or they were sure they would.
They will discuss the things they saw today on their flight back
to Nashville and call Felicia tomorrow morning to tell her which to send.
At the beginning of the meeting Felicia brought up royalties and
they said they paid them. Felicia said we'd like 5% - but would
settle for 4% (not in so many words, but the general idea). She
mentioned a $1,500 advance and they raised no objections.
After they left Felicia said that the inventor of ESPIONAGE (see 4/27/73)
would be willing to split royalties with me if I improve his game.
Looked at it and told Felicia that I couldn't do much with it without
making an entirely different game of it.
Looked at EARTHSPIONAGE very quickly. 2 to 4 can play. Each has are an area
of the board which he try to fill with "earth chips." Some have
green, which are always good. Others are red. There are put on without
looking at the back. When a player becomes "a partner of mother earth"
he gets a chance to look at the back of some red chips. Some have
"scars" and there is a point penalty depending on whose color it is.
(Very rough idea.)
Quick look at ZIGGURAT. The smallest pc. now has a special marking.
