MAY 1974 - MONDAY 27
MEMORIAL DAY - FIRST DAY OF SHEBUOTH - 147TH DAY - 218 DAYS TO COME

Working on game diary.

Call from Ralph Betza; Phil Cohen suggested that he call.
Told him that I tried to call him in the evening and
didn't get an answer. he said that he often goes in after 10. I
asked for his number again and a different one that the one Phil
gave me: [bracket drawn] Ralph Betza
[bracket drawn] 355-5159
I asked him about NIXON ECONOMIC CHESS and he said that it
really isn't playable. More playable is WATERGATE CHESS in which
there is a 50% chance that any move is a bluff. It shows up later
by succeeding moves (??). His favorite and most playable, of
his inventions is CONVERSION CHESS, the rules for which I have.
(See NOST-ALGIA #165)
He saw INFINITY in a store and said it looked interesting, but too
into expensive. Told him I'd bring him one when I came to see him.
Arranged that I'd call him at the beginning of next week to set a
date to get together.

Working on game diary.

In afternoon started a new model for SKYSCRAPERS. Finished
the last two pcs. after the Horn's came here. Showed it to
Dave and he solved the easy puzzle.

piece of matching color number of spots and places it on
his board in any position. The first three throws must be
accepted. After this a player may refuse to take take the pc.
thrown. He must chip in for this (don't remember how much).
The following player may offer to buy the pc. (again don't re-
member the details). When a player throws a number he
can't use he loses his turn, but doesn't have to chip in. When
a played throws a number for a pc. that is all out, he
can take any pc. The first player to fill his card scores
the number of points on all the pcs. plus 5 points bonus
(what about the chips in the pot?) The other players
score for the pcs. they have on their card. If a player
throws the same no. for his first 3 turns, the game ends
immediately, the player getting a 15 point bonus. (Don't
remember the functioning of the pot - or actually is there one.)
Wald Amberstone called while I was out. Said he'd call again.

Wrote to Edward Purcell about his PATTERNS program. Mentioned
ELEUSIS and DELPHI.
Wrote To Carol Peterson mentioned G&P sent NO WAY. and Don Miller
Sent "Get Well" card to Jerry D'Arcey.
