20 MONDAY - MAY 1974
VICTORIA/QUEEN'S BIRTHDAY (CANADA) - 140TH DAY - 225 DAYS TO COME
To "Stationary Show." Registered as "Press." In Press Room took a folder
on Intellect Games; a folder from "British Information Services"
on 20 companies at Show - very little on games; E.S. Lowe folder with
some pcs. by Terry Seymour on standards.
- 3M. Spoke to Kathy Brooks. She wants to look at the sample of
SKYSCRAPERS; told her I'd have the model ready in a week or so.
They have a new process that makes puzzles in a mother-of-pearl finish.
That made her think of looking at this puzzle again.
The new games ate CONTIGO and EVENTS. Took sheet for myself and
for Phil Orbanes. They also include the p&p games.
I asked about FOREIGN INTRIGUE. She said that they should start panel
testing in a week or so. It probably will be too late to make the 1975
line in any case, so if they like it it will be for '76. // Keith Tuggle expected later.
- S.J. Miller. He said hello to me as I passed. Nothing new in games.
- Itemation. They were too busy to talk to me. Saw the box for
ENERGY CRISIS GAME and a new game JUMBLE, which is a competitive
very version of the newspaper puzzle. Took sheet on it.
There were rules of STAMP COLLECTORS GAME around and I took one.
- Four Generations. Spoke to Richard Benton, very pleasant. Philip Shoptaugh
not in this time. Took a catalog. New are HALMA, POLYGON (HEX),
TAU (a new version with wood cubes), JUNGLE, THERMOPYLAE, REVERSI,
and a series of "Penny Puzzlers" - STARSLIDE, BOTTLENECK, CHASE,
THE GREEN WITCH, DOUBLE DIP, MERRY GO ROUND, STARFIND, TRIANGLE TRIP,
INTERCHANGE, MULTI-TRIANGLES, NIMWIT, THE LONELY AFRICAN. Also
UNGAME.
Also took a pamphlet with rules for GO, GOMOKU, & HASAMI SHOGI.
Also took some loose sheets on the games and puzzles, and a sheet on
"Aphorism's" which is not a game but a desk plaque with a saying.
Also a newspaper "The Corkboard" with, among other things, a descrip-
tion of TRIANGLE TRIP and THE LONELY AFRICAN.
- Waddington's. Spoke to Les Martindale who said that Alfons Rubbens
would be there in the afternoon. No new games.
- Cy Miller Inc. - Executive Games. Standards with new names; among
others - VIKING (MILL), GAMMON (PARCHISI). Historical notes
that are all wrong.
- G&R. They asked me if I had a copy of WATCH. They lost
theirs and they may have a copy company that would be interested
in putting it out - "Shirt Pocket Games." I said that I would have
Claude Soucie bring them a copy. They said that I should wait until
they contact me.
The only new things I noticed are the line of "Peterson Puzzles"
(see 5/24/72) and FACES - based on "Character Analysis from Facial
Features," with blocks with different features on the sides.
- Reiss. The new things, or those that I don't already have are:
STRATO CHESS (3 boards), XAVIERA'S GAMES, SEDUCTION (which I have),
COMPATABILITY, 1776, I.Q., PONENTS, THINK TWICE, DIET GAME,
NUMEROLOGY, KONANE, YUCATAN, TABLUT, TA KAI, FLUSTRATION.
Also some knock-off puzzles: COB WEB, EXIT, FLAT TOP, MULTIPLICITY,
LICORICE STIX, TORMENT, THE STAR, and EQUILIBRIUM. And some others
a little more original: CLUTCH, IDLE, HUBCAP, 4BARREL, POINTS,
(Cont. on 5/19)
