20 TUESDAY - NOVEMBER 1973
324TH DAY - 41 DAYS TO COME

Rcd. a letter from Harley Flanders in Israel asking why I didn't
answer his letter of 12/12/72 asking about LASCA or LASKER(S).
Wrote to him mentioning Kraitchik's MATHEMATICAL RECREATIONS and
A MANUAL OF LASCA. (Filed in Martin Gardner folder - since
he probably heard of me thru Martin.) [Actually answered on 11/22]

Painted upstairs living room preparatory to moving games into it.

Some more looking at p & p games.

Martin said that SCARNE'S ENCYCLOPEDIA OF GAMES was
cribbed shamefully from previous books. It undoubtedly,
he said, was ghosted. Told him about <POKE, which
we figured was cribbed from ESQUIRE'S BOOK OF GAMBLING.
Had a letter which I borrowed from Martin on 9/30/72 -
with DODGEM, SERPENT, and an unnamed game - and reproduced
some time ago. Meant to return it but forgot.
Martin has turned in a column, which willget a cover on
SCIENTIFIC AMERICAN, on the mathematical aspects of
the I-CHING. Told him of the one by D.D.I. and he would
have liked to see it. Couldn't find it.

Spent several hours after Martin & Charlotte left looking
for the I-CHING. Just couldn't find it.

But I'll believe it when I see it.
Frank noticed that Alex Randolph had his name on the
package for MOEBIES. Discussed Alex' insistance that his
name appear on a game.
After coming up with a way of producing STACTICS so that
it would price out Hasbro finally decided not to do it.
Frank's son came across a book in school that listed AGOG
as a book that would help students develop their thinking:
READING - HOW TO by Herbert Kohl -Dutton.

In a call to Phil Laurence he told me that Elliott had talked a friend
into buying SLEUTH. Now they both love it. I told
Elliott the 2-player version.
