To Simulations. Showed PATTON to Al Nofi, Jim D., and Sal. And gave it to Bob Champer. Bob asked about further projects and I told him that I wanted him to work with me on MACARTHUR under the same arrangement. He was pleased.
Spoke to Jim about his previous idea for listing non-war games in Issue #41 and getting feedback info on them. Maximum number is 80. List only the game and the manufacturer. Have it ready in 4 weeks. My column should be ready in 3 weeks.
Spoke to Redmund and he used all the material I gave him for #40, including the 4 pictures of "Gamut" games and the pictures of HYPERCHECKERS and HYPERCHESS.
Al Nofi was doing an article on the present state of war gaming for CONFLICT Magazine. He mentioned, as the ultimate in "playability," the legendary STRONG-POINT W4. This was a gag conceived by Bob Champer. The board is 4 hexes long by and no pcs. [pieces] are needed. The game is over after one battle.
I asked Al Nofi for a book to use for MACARTHUR, similar to the one I borrowed for PATTON. He doesn't have any, and suggested a number of books I can get in the library. (Made separate notes of these.)
Al and Bob Champer suggested the following as battles to include: - "Retreat to Bataan," "Invasion of Luzon," "New Guinea" (spelling?), "Korea"
Incidentally, I told Bob not to do anything definite until I give him the word.
Took 7 copies of #39 S&T and the S.P.I. catalog.
In 200 Fifth Ave. met Allan Turoff (spelling?) in the elevator. (He recognized me.) He hasn't sold anything this year. The item- MAKE-A-PUZZLE GAME - he took back from Hallmark is now being considered by MB.
When Allan saw Dick Harris, Dick indicated that they were interested in card games. Also he, thinks that Dick, thinks that "law & order" will be a hot theme. I asked him why he doesn't follow up on these tips himself. He said that he is busy with other things and doesn't mind at all if I use them.
He asked what I was doing and I told him about THE RIGHT CONNECTIONS, FITTING & PROPER, HOLIDAY, and PATTON - but that 3M is still my mainstay. He said that his nephew says it is very popular in his prep school - ACQUIRE that is.

Incidentally, at Simulations I asked Al about the letter of 9/13. He doesn't know about the "International reply coupon." He agrees that the letter must be from England.
Made repros of the PUSHOVER and THE 31ST HEX rules. Also, for my father to keep busy, made repros from the Italian book PICCOLA ENCICLOPEDIA DEI GIUOCHI E PASSATEMPI DI IERI E DI OGGI - card games and domino solitaires.

To Felicia. SHAPE AND SHATTER and TRIPLE CROSS were back from
