10 Monday - September 1973

Call from <u>Felicia</u>. She had a letter from <u>Burt Huber</u> together with

their rules for <u>HONORABLE RELATIONS</u>. In the letter he says that

they have kept the play the same but have substituted a mythical

feudal society instead of the numbers and hope I will be satisfied.

He is sending her several copies of <u>THE RIGHT CONNECTIONS</u>, <u>FITTING & PROPER</u>,  

and <u>CUBITS</u>.

<br>We decided that I would look at the <u>HONORABLE RELATIONS</u>

rules when I bring <u>PUSHOVER</u> and <u>THE 31ST HEX</u> to Felicia next

Monday, at 2. Incidentally, Burt promised to give us an answer

within 30 days for the two puzzle-games.  

Call from <u>Phil Orbanes</u>. He apologized for not calling last Friday,

but he didn't have any questions on the p&p games.

<br>Told him that "a manufacturer" had told me that Reiss was

taking over D.D.I. and that Reiss and Mag-Nif had split.

Also that I hadn't let on that I knew.

<br>The takeover of D.D.I. is definite. It will be handled as a  

separate entity under National Paragon with the existing  

management. <u>Carl Eisenberg</u> will have little or nothing to do

with it.

<br>Hoi Polloi is expanding. They are setting up a factory in this

country for assembling games, etc. They are setting up  

a factory in Puerto Rico for producing wood products.

<br>They are looking for wood items to use their new

factory. They want things to sell between $1 and $5.

They want things that consist of cut pcs. [pieces] - a maximum

of 24 - that can be tumble finished. They can be silk

screened with a maximum of 3 colors.

<br>Phil has sold them two items. <s>One is a</s> Both are

manipulative <u>PUZZLES</u>. One called <u>RUNNER UP</u> is an

inclined plane with a ball to run up it. The other is a spiral  

incline with a ball to run up it. He is getting $500 each  

for these (or rather "Gamut of Games" is). He considers it as

a "finder's fee" for things that are in the public domain.

If he comes up with an original concept he will expect royalties.

(Later learned that these were plastic - not wood.)

<br>He is working on a <u>GAME</u> using 24 pcs. [pieces] as shown [box with an "X" in it], with

all possible combinations of 3 colors. Another idea is a

<u>STRATEGO</u> type <s>game</s> <u>GAME</u> without a board.

<br>I told him about <u>THE WORM TURNS</u> and he thinks it

would be suitable.

<br>As a possibility I asked about a word <u>GAME</u> using wooden tiles.

He said that he was thinking of that. I said that then I wouldn't  

continue with my idea. He said by all means for me to continue, and

let Hoi Polloi take the better one. I said that I-Q should deinitely

get a cut of any of these games. He appreciated my saying

that, and said that we'd discuss the amount later.

<br>On the plastic items, Hoi Polloi will be coming out with 6 - $1.50

items, all packaged the same way - similar to Mag-Nif's "Mental

Hang Ups." Phil has two of his things included. (Royalties?)
