10 Saturday - March 1973 69th Day - 296 Days to Come

Playing around with OVER 'N OVER, alone and with BB. Discovered a possibility of an impasse where each player makes 3 moves, leaving the center space vacant, and it is to each player's disadvantage to do something else. A solution, as a variant for advanced players, is to limit the number of times in a row that the center space can be left vacant - either 2, 3, or 4, each giving a different situation.

Also thought of and tested another variant for advanced play- ers; each player, on the second move of any turn only, is allowed to move a piece into the empty space instead of jumping.

Called Claude. He saw a BUNCO set for $4 in a Queens antique shop. Told him not to get it.

He is working on redoing LOA to make it different for a checkerboard. He is putting pictures on the spaces shown and specifying that in order to win a player must have at least on [one?] of his pcs [pieces] on one of a picture space. RENDEVOUS, (see 3/4)

He has decided that he won't be going out on Thursdays from now on, but will be working on games instead.

We discussed contracts and [illegible word crossed out] he asked if I could send him a sample of one by the big companies. i told him I'd send an outline of what it covers, for his lawyer to use as a guide.

Mag-Nif came up and Phil doubts if Bill Knox will come out with 20 items - more likely something like 5. I told him what Gini said about TORUS being a knock-off He had heard something about it. He said that Mag-Nif and Reiss were having problems working together.

Call from Arthur. He spoke to Ned Strongin and it looks like their BALANCE OF POWER will be coming out for '74 (or possibly before.) No word on SPY WHO CAME IN FROM THE COLD, etc but Arthur thinks they will be coming out.

I told Arthur about Parker's ESPIONAGE and the double agents. He wasn't worried.

He and Wald are working on things, but Arthur wouldn't give me any details.
