9 SUNDAY - JANUARY 1972
FIRST SUNDAY AFTER EPIPHANY - 9TH DAY - 357 DAYS TO COME
Jerry Frederick brought me the Jan. '72 SCIENTIFIC AMERICAN
column. Had discussion of NIM, and Conway's game of
HACKENBUSH.
Looking thru game diaries and pre-diary notes for ideas for
Pencil & Paper games. Working on PENCIL AND PAPER GUSHER
which I will probably call DRILL FOR OIL - and X AND O. Also
thinking about AIR SUPREMECY - which I will probably call
AIR BATTLE.
(cont. from 1/11) [1/11]
I had to work thru Fabio, since he is my editor.
After Mike Alber, went to BOOK WORLD. Gave Thomas Tincher the
list of people to send the column to. Discussed my doing 8
or possibly more columns per year. I said I'd need help
answering letters and he said I'd have space there and
secretarial assistance as a sort of editor. He is looking into getting
advertising from game manufacturers and asked about a listing.
Told him about PLAYTHINGS and TOYS directories and
offered to come down with them and discuss possibilities. He'll let me
know if he wants me to.
Took two copies of the January 9th edition which gave the
address for CAVEAT EMPTOR.
In talking about my doing a regular column, I brought up
the problem of my own games. He suggested getting a "guest"
to review them.
To Al Flosso (Martinka Magis Shop) (See 12/6/71). Bought a copy
of PUZZLES FOR EVERYONE by Julian J. Proskauer.
Left my card in case he gets a copy of Professor Hoffman's
PUZZLES OLD AND NEW.
Bernie Lane and Bob Hallowell called while I was out. I'm to call
them tomorrow.
