FRIDAY 8 OCTOBER 1971
281st day - 84 days to come

In De Bijenkorf Dept. Store in Amsterdam bought a puzzle -
OBSESSION (the English and French name).
Saw another puzzle - FACOM. This consisted of 12 pcs. each
made up of 5 joined cubes - the 12 PENTOMINOS made
in a thickness of 1 cube. Object is to form a cube
3 x 4 x 5. (Many solutions are given.)

Saw a game INTER BISS. Was told that it was like MONOPOLY.
Seemed to be based on a travel motif. There were four separate
tracks each, I was told, belonging to a different player.

From London called Michael Dummett. Made a date to go
to Oxford Sunday to visit him.
Tried to call Mr. Bloncourt (see 9/23). No answer.

At the British Museum, in the ancient display, saw a game
called MEHAN - c. 2800 B.C. - It was made
of stone with a checkered radial pattern.
The checkering was made with alternate
raised and lowered portions. In the center was
a hole. No details given concerning
the play.

Wilkinson. I looked at it shortly and he promised to send me
repros.
He had an extra copy of a thin Dutch book -
KAARTSPELLEN VOOR TWEE, DRIE OF MIER PERSONEN which he gave me.
Michael told me that a publishing firm he knws is interested in
a British edition of AGOG. I'll try to call them tomorrow
morning.

If I don't get thru Michael will tell them to contact
me, not Random House.
I told Michael that I wanted him to act as my agent
and get 10% of the royalties. He said "no" at first, but then
agreed.
The publisher is a fairly small one, but Michael thinks they
are ambitious and will be growing.
