<u>Mary Hilt</u> called about the <u>TRANSFORMATION</u> rules. She will add to
the bottom of the printed rules the note about random placing
on the playing field. On the matter of the lowest value of a forma-
tion, she suggested that after 1 point is scored the stone be placed
in the storage compartment. I agreed. I suggested putting a mark on the
available color stones. Too expensive. When the first run of 2,500
is out, she will do a folder for the rules since color printing on the
box cover is difficult. She'll send me a proof.
She is having trouble getting airplane markers for <u>AIRLINE</u>. I asked a-
bout the board and she said that <u>Hank Laub</u> insisted on the wrap-
around. I told her my feelings about antagonizing 3M and she un-
derstood. It won't look at all like the 3M games, she said.
She wants to do <u>NOMINATION</u> and <u>MAVERICK COUNTRY</u> for next year, but
the final decision is not up to her. She wants another theme for
the latter, and is not impressed with <u>MATCHED SET</u>. She'll think about it.
I asked about <u>CINEMA</u> and she said there were too many
components. I told her about my ideas for simplifying and
changing to a business theme. She'd like to see it.
I asked about <u>FOCUS</u> and she didn't know that it had been re-
leased by Whitman. She'd like to do it, but is not sure she can
use the name <u>FOCUS</u>. She'll also have trouble getting checkers in
four colors. (Nothing final on this.)
In discussing imitations and my contention that they don't sell, she
said that their small spout games, <u>LET'S PLAY GOLF</u>, etc. are
selling better than the 3M Gamettes; about 200 each per week.
Rcd. <u>''INTERNATIONAL WARGAMER''</u> (May 1971 & June 1971) and
<u>''INTERNATIONAL WARGAMER SUPPLEMENT''</u> to the two issue. Also a
mini-game <u>SAIPAN!</u>, which is a preview of a coming game called
<u>SAIPAN & TINIAN</u>. The June issue had an ad by Don Greenwood for
a new game <u>AFRIKA KORPS II</u> - $2.50.
Rcd. a letter from <u>Michael Dummett</u>. He rcd. the material I sent and
particularly appreciated the <u>ALSOS</u> translation. He will try
to get more stuff off to me as soon as possible. (Haven't
rcd. any yet.) | |||
Wrote to <u>Mary Hilt</u> telling her of the necessary changes
in the <u>NOMINATION</u> cards, if she finally does it.
Wrote to <u>Bob Edwards</u> about <u>OPEN BRIDGE</u> (not by name).
<u>Felicia</u> called, a little under the influence. She had dinner with an
editor from Crest (she told me the name later). She thinks
that she got them interested in <u>''AGOG''</u>. She apologized for
asking, but she wanted 15% for I.S. I said certainly she
deserved it if she could place the book. She mentioned some
"cutting." She talked of sales in the millions and I worried
about all the letters I'd have to answer. She said she'd get me
a secretary as part of the contract. I'll call Random House
(cont. on 5/28) | |||
