THURSDAY 17 SEPTEMBER U.S. Constitution Adopted 1787 1970 260th day - 105 days to come
Sent Jim Dunnigan a copy of the rules for THE ORIGINS OF WORLD WAR II together with the following letter. Jimi Found that I had an extra copy of these rules. The board has some extra garbage in Germany; such as "Workers", "Army", "Junker Nobility", "Government", "Industrialists", "Middle Class", and "Bavarian Catholics" - all of which seems to have nothing whatsoever to do with the rules. Sid
Sent check for $4.10 to GAME OF THE MONTH CLUB (N.J.) for the game NILE.
Looked over the material Jim Kraus sent on SEARCH called collect but he wasn't in today. He'll be in tomorrow.
Made a list of all the letters I have to write.
Phil Orbanes called. He saw Bob Hallowell today. He seems to really go for SWORD IN THE STONE. Bob wanted Phil to look at a GAME he was interested in and help the inventor fix it up a little. Phil owed Bob a favor and went to the fellow's house. The game is played on an 8 x 8 board. The spaces are colored in 8 colors and arranged so that each row and column contains all eight colors. Each player has one pc., black for one, white for the other. One player sets his pc. on his nearest row on any color he wishes and the other then chooses any of the remaining colors on his nearest row. Object is to get across the board to the space of the same color as the starting space. A piece can move one space forward or two spaces side- ways or backward. No diagonal moves. The moving pc. may not move into a space of the same color as that adjoining the opponent's pc. on any of the 4 adjoining spaces. In making a winning move the pc. may move 2 spaces ahead. The game was quite slow-moving, especially at the beginning and to reach an end. Phil suggested that a player cannot block the opponent from moving into a space of the blocking player's color. (That is - if a player started in red and has to reach red space, even if his pc. is next to a red space.) Also a player can win with a diagonal move (1 or 2 spaces?). I told Phil about Bob saying that he didn't want to get into board games at the present time when I showed him SPECTRUM. Phil spoke to Bob about looking at material from Felicia's clients Bob decided (under pressure?) that he had enough material for the present.
