294th day - 71 days to come

Called Diane Jaust and Salley Kavalchick. Both called back.
Diane:- Told her about MATHEMATICS TEACHER. She was inter- ested and I gave her the address. Asked her if she would be interested in sending two books to Tom Shaw for THE GENERAL (a review in). Yes. Will call me for address tomorrow.
Sally:- Also told her about Martin's [crossout] suggestion of ad- vertising in MATHEMATICS TEACHER. Told her that I didn't receive my ten author's copies. She'll look into it. I also ordered a- nother 10 copies. It is O.K. to pay for them out of future royalties.

To Hasbro at lunch time and picked up MATING GAME & THE WORLD OF WALL STREET.
On way back picked up some plastic beads in a Japanese store on 5th Ave. Tried using them for COUNTERPOINT in the evening. Seemed good.

Spoke to Claude and talked about A GAMUT OF GAMES a little. He thinks the reviews should have been longer.
Later Claude called BB and told her he met Bob Abbott by accident

The posts move according to the number of beads on them. Squares give an orthogonal move. Diamonds give a diagonal move. Circles can be added to either if desired. (For exam- ple - a post has 1 [drawn square with two vertical lines drawn inside], 2 [diamond with two vertical lines drawn inside], and 2 [circles with two vertical lines drawn inside]. It may move either one or 3 spaces orthogonally, or 2 or 4 spaces diagonally.)
[words crossed out] A player may pass a bead from one post to another if they are in a straight line, orthogonally for [drawn square with two vertical lines drawn inside], diagonally for [diamond with two vertical lines drawn inside], or either for [circles with two vertical lines drawn inside]. (Is this instead of a move, or in addition?)
Captures are by replacement. Object is to occupy the opponent's goal.
When 3 or 4 play the goals are in the corners. (Didn't get the initial layout of the posts.) When a player captures another's goal he takes over that players remaining posts.
STAGGER STICKS:- This is a special type of stick which
