After work went down to Joe's Book Mart on Park Row.
Bought <u>''WAR GAMES''</u> & <u>''NAVAL WAR GAMES''</u>($10 plus tax).
Didn't have the other two book by Featherstone but will be get-
ting them. I'll call in a few weeks and check.
Thinking about <u>TAKE IT AWAY</u>. Use 10 blue chips, worth 3 points
each; 20 red chips, worth 2 points each; and 34 white chips, worth
1 point each. They are placed on a checkerboard at random. The
first player chooses a white chip and removes it. Then in turn players
take off chips by short jumps or multiple short jumps, diagonally
permitted. Whenever a player wishes, instead of taking his turn he
can say "Take it away". The other player then continues playing as
long as he can. Any pieces left on the board count 2 x (or 3x, or
4 x if agreed before) their regular value against the player who
took it away. | |||
Called Claude to tell him I had <u>LOA</u>. Also told him about the
latest development on <u>EXECUTIVE DECISION</u>. He wants to help
on it. Told him that as soon as I get a chance to make up the
equipment we'd get together and try it out.

The parent name is <u>ACTION</u>.
<u>ESCAPE</u>:- One piece is moved at a time. I can move
[diagram of 4 x 4 grid; columns 1 and 2 each contain one white piece in grid square; columns 3 and 4 each contain one black piece in grid square]
over pieces, or piles with pieces on top, of the player's
own color. Moves orthogonally but may turn 90° as
often as desired. Land on opponent's piece or pile con-
trolled by opponent. Piles can only be a maximum
of 4 high. When moving off a pile move only the top
piece. Object is to move all your pieces off the board
on the opposite side from starting position. Pieces can move sideways
but cannot move back in the opposite direction. Only the center
spaces are used. | |||
<u>SIEGE</u>:- Pieces are set up as shown in the center spaces but

all spaces are used. Pieces have the rooks move. Object
is to surround an opponent's piece on 4 sides (orthogonal)
or less at edge or corner. (There is some-
thing about mutual surroundings, see
diagram, but it doesn't seem to make
sense. Will have to get the correct info.)

<u>CHAIN REACTION</u>.
<u>ACTION</u>. Pieces set up as in the 2nd. Object is to im-
mobilize all of the opponent's pieces. Piles can only be 4 high.
Piles can move over pieces of opposite color to the bottom of
the pile. Pile is controlled by the top piece. No captures. (Don't
remember all the details.) (There is a little resemblance to
<u>FOCUS</u> but <u>FOCUS </u>is more unified.)
Phil said that the budget was not confirmed yet but
that they had me down for 6 hours a month at $10 an hour.
I told him that I would have no problem giving him that
