Thought of a new game, SQUEEZE PLAY which can be either
pencil and paper or peg. Use a 6x6 quadrille. The first player puts
his mark in any space. The second player then places his mark
next, including diagonally, to the first mark. The two players in turn
place their mark. Each mark must be placed next to at least
two that are already there. When a piece surrounds others as in
REVERSI the surrounded pieces are not turned over but the
player scores one point for each piece surrounded. A piece or line
of pieces is also surrounded when between an opponent's piece
and the edge of the board. Play until all spaces are filled.
An additional rule added later. A player must score if pos-
sible, but if no scoring move is possible, the player must may make another legal move. (Or possibly it may be better to cause the player to lose his turn.)

Jim Dunnagan [Dunnigan] (see 3/13) here for supper. He brought me a repro- duced copy of Totten's STRATEGOS. An acquaintance of his swiped it from the Brooklyn Library and Jim persuaded him to return it after Jim makes him 4 reproduced copies.
Jim borrowed my copy of John P. Young's SURVEY OF PL A HIST A SURVEY OF HISTORICAL DEVELOPMENTS IN WAR GAMES to reproduce it.
Jim told me that he is a history major and he published some pham pamphlets which A-H saw. They contacted him to do games for them. He did JUTLAND & 1914 (he says he'll give me a copy of this one.)
He gave me a form A-H put out asking people for their preference in forthcoming games. He will work on the ones they request:-
ANZIO:- In order to break the deadlock in Italy the Allies land a corps behind the German lines. The Allies must reach Rome, the Ger- mans must stop them. CAESAR:- Julius Caesar, with 4 legions (equivalent to modern di- visions) conquers Gaul (prent present trance & Switzerland), puts down major rebellions and invasions by marauding Germans and finally fights a civil war with Pompey [Pompeii].
TANNENBURG:- The east front equivalent of "1914" in which Germany and Austria-Hungary face Russia in a wide open battle of maneuver on the plains. THE CHARGE OF THE LIGHT BRIGADE:- You control a set-piece battle during the Crimean War. Cavalry, Infantry, & Artillery action on a small scale.
