St. Joseph 79th day - 287 days to come
Looked at the book contract and called Martin Gardner. He thinks I should
bargain for 7 1/2% on the first 5,000 copies and then 10%. Martin
also thinks that 8,000 copies as an initial run is very large, 3,000 is
more usual. Fabio said the run would probably be 8,000.
Martin said that when I get the [crossout] galleys to look at I
should contact him about his column. Also I should call him to
let him know how I make out with the contract.
Wrote to A.S.M. Dickins requesting his book on FAIRY CHESS and offering him a copy of FOCUS. Also told him that I hadn't heard of WAGON WHEEL CHESS and asking him what information he had.
Ordered MINITAR.
Sent check to Caddylak for "ruling tape."
(cont. from 3/21) [3/20]

South Korea's aid as the communists race down the peninsula.

[the following six titles listed are included in an open bracket with the following written:
"Each player has his own model plane
with a stand for altitude. A card
gives the permissible maneuvers for
each plane. These games are to be
done in conjunction with Renwal Plastics.]
WORLD WAR I
BATTLE OF BRITAIN
ZERO
LUFTWAFFE I (1943, 1944)
LUFTWAFFE II (1945)
MIG ALLEY (Korean War)
The following two are ideas of Jim's which he figures on doing
with Gamescience rather than A-H.
WALL STREET:- 1929 version - Players are speculators. Object to get
out of crash with most money. Leverage trusts.
1969 version - simulation of modern stock market.
THE THIRTY YEARS WAR:- Emphasis on the political implications.
Gamescience's BATTLE OF BRITAIN (see 3/13) was done
by Louis Zocchi with a lot of help from Jim.
We discussed the matter of Gamescience, Renwal, and Allstate
but I didn't learn much more than on 3/13. Phil Orbanes
should be in town around 4/7 and he & Jim will come to visit.
