Wednesday 13 March 1968
73rd day - 293 days to come
[written next to bracket] Jane said the man who did
game reviews was "Guy Wagner."
She didn't know where he
was located.
To Cadaco at 8:30 to show two games to Mr. Kocha and Jane
Wehnhoefer. GO SEE:- Mr. Koch thought it was well worked
out and attractive, but too expensive to produce. Jane thought
there was nothing different about it. DATA:- Koch said that
he might want to see it sometime in the (indefinite) future.
Jane said it was very different, but a bore. I agreed with
her that the way we were doing it, with my telling them what
to play did not make it very interesting for them.
Went next door to E.S.R. Inc., the ones who do DR. NIM etc. They wouldn't talk to me this week. E.S.R. Inc. now controls Ed-U-Cards.
To Gary & Reidel:-
Alpsco, who puts out THE GAMES PEOPLE PLAY GAME has
added HAAR HOOLIM'S PERCEPTION GAMES - This is the "Chinese
Matching Cards" with some 16 different games. One is a
direct steal from Bob Abbott's ELEUSIS. Didn't look at it
as I'll be buying it. THE VERBAL GAME:- Only a dummy box.
The cover shows cards which have parts of words on
them such as AUGMEN-T-ING and VOCABUL-ARY.
Solar Products (Richard Higgins) who does AL PHA BET has a new card game SWORDFISH. This is a fairly simple game of using different "tackle" cards to catch different kinds of fish cards. If catch a fish with a lighter tackle score more. Can also steal fish from other players before they are pulled in. (Very rough idea.)
Good Games, Inc. (@ [crossout] 1968-Winston N. Allen Boston, Mass.)
BEE LINE:- Played with hex pcs. on a large hex board. Each (2)
player has 12 each of the following pcs. in his color -
[diagram of three hexes with varies lines drawn in each and "tracks" with arrows pointing in both directions horizontally underneath the drawn hexes]
and 6 pcs. that are
solid black on one side and solid red on the other (notes). Players start
with a node on their side of the board turned
to their color. The first player plays one pc.
next to his node. Then each in turn plays 2 pcs. on a turn.
Nodes can be played on a player's own side to help or on
opponent's side with his color up to hinder (how?). Nodes can be
played off in any direction. If a player's path is blocked by
his opponent's he must remove the pcs. back to his last
node. At the beginning of the game each player divides
his tracks into 4 groups of 3 of each shape. A group must
be completely used up before starting the next. Win by
bringing path next to opponent's starting node. (Fairly complete
rules. I intend getting this.)
RENDEZVOUS IN SPACE:- an elaborate space board game. Didn't
look @ it.
CONCENSUS:- but no other games by this co.
