FRIDAY 13 MARCH 1964 73rd day - 293 days to come

Went to toy fair. Saw Dick Conner & gave him a FOCUS booklet & a set of chips & small checkerboard.

Monday Morning Quarterback, Inc:-

  • MONDAY MORNING QUARTERBACK- Football played wiht a

serios series of sets of cards representing the various plays. The defensive player chooses the type of play he anticipates. There are two results on each lay card, one if the type of play is guessed, one if it isn't.

  • TOTAL WAR- A variation of BATTLESHIPS for more than 2

players. Each player has a magic slate for positioning his weapons (some are to be placed on land, some on water and some on either) and field for marking the shots on each of the opponents. (There are 4 players max. I believe). Squares shot into apply to all fields in- cluding the own of the player firing. In order to wipe out an opponent's weapon it may be necessary for a player to destroy part of this own weapon. (Fairly complete rules).

  • PATTERNS- For 2 to 4 players (I think). Played on 11 x 11

quadrille, using number squares tiles - 10 each of numbers 1 thru 9 (90 total). Each player draws 7 squares tiles (are these exposed or not?). The first player places any tile in any position. The next player places a tile next to it orthagonally and either 1 number higher or lower. After playing a player draws another tile. Generally play continues in a straight line until a player is forced to play off a side. A position next to 2, 3, or 4 tiles can be played into provided the numerical relationship is correct with all matching tiles. Some spaces can become [diagram of 3x3 grid with numbers, annotated "DEAD SPACES"] dead as shown. If a player plays matching 2 or more sides it is a bonus play and he plays again, etc., with a maximum of 7 plays (the number of tiles). Play conti After bonus plays a player draws tiles to bring his hand back to 7 tiles. Play continues until either no player can play (even if there tiles left to be drawn - if a player can't play he just loses his turn.) or all the tiles have been drawn and a player plays out all his tiles. Scoring. Each time a player plays a tile he scores the number on the tile multiplied by the number of matching tiles (1 to 4). If he plays all 7 tiles on a turn, all scores for that turn are doubled. When play is blocked the player with the lowest number scores the total of all numbers left in the other's hands (deducting from their score would be better). A player playing out scores the sum of all other player's tiles. Play to some definite score. (cont. on 3/14)
