To Arthur's, Claude there.
Arthur told us that the editor at Random House is definitely in his book on the HIgh Deck. They also have been interested in going into the game business itself. Meeting Arthur has furthered their interest in the project.
Three of us played Claude's LOA[red dot] He has a new layout as follows:-
[Diagram on left side of page - hexagonal lattice of small circles. Some are colored in. Colors include red, purple, orange, green, yellow, blue. There are six circles for each color]

Each player has six pcs. which are started as shown in the layout. We deliberately used an unsymmetrical choice of colors but it did not seem to matter.
It is permissable to jump over any other pc., friendly or enemy. This makes a playable & pleasant game, but for the 2-handed version certainly not as profound as the original.

Arthur showed us his new game with the High Deck - VERSAILLES [red dot]. This is a partnership game played by four (Anne joined us).
Each player is dealt one card face down. The remainder of the deck is placed face down in the center of the table. Pone draws a card from the deck. He must then place one of the cards face up on the table in front of him. So on around the table for the first round.
ON the second and succeeding rounds a player either draw from the deck or may take a face up card from the player on his right. In order to take a card the card must form a meld fit in with a card or cards that the player already has on the table.
A group of cards that a player has down in front of him must be a scoring combination, or leading to a scoring combination (with one exception listed below). A player may have up to four groups of cards placed before him.
