WEDNESDAY 22 DECEMBER First Day of Winter 1965 356th day - 9 days to come
Aunt Flo called BB. Today's Wall Street Journal has an article on Adult Games which includes ACQUIRE.
At Abercrombie & Fitch saw:- PRO QUARTERBACK (Champion Game Co. - Southport Conn.) Offensive player has choice of 12 plays and also a "strong side" or "weak side" designation. Defensive player has 8 defences. Each chooses his play and offensive player throws 3 dice, defensive player throws 2 dice. The difference between them is the "offense factor." This number is checked on the charts in connection with the chosen plays to determine the outcome, in some cases the "offense factor" is added (or deducted) from the indicated yardage. (Rough idea.)
CHAMPIONSHIP GOLF (Champion Game Co. - Southport Conn.)
There are sheets with 18 different holes. There
is a plastic overlay for measuring distances and
directions. There is a disc (probably) shooter
which players shoot to determine the result of
their stroke. The final position is taken in connection
with the club chosen in order to determine
the lay of the ball. Dice are used to indicate the
roll of the ball after hitting ground. (Very rough
idea - since there were nol complete sets in the store.)
In Brentano's saw SENTENCE (American Publishing Co.- Waltham, Mass.). There are 144 word tiles. Each player takes 12 and tries to form the longest possible sentence (4 words minimum I believe) and each scores the point value of each word in their sentence (point value printed on word tile). Then the words are played like ANAGRAMS and players form sentences which they place in front of them (the tiles are interlocked for easy handling). Sentences can be stolen by adding a word in the front or at the end (why not allow rearranging?). After [illegible word crossed out] words are played out 12 more are taken by each and continue as from the beginning. (Fairly rough idea.)
In Brentano's saw THE PURSUIT OF HAPPINESS GAME (couldn't see a
company). Game based on "Peanuts" characters. Players move
around a path each space of which has instructions, usually for
winning and losing letters. Certain spaces call for "Happiness"
when land on one these dice spaces, thow the dice twice to get
a number such as 61, 34, etc. Then read the statement corresponding
to the number - "Happiness is a ________." The player
reading the statement decides whether he agrees with the state-
