WEDNESDAY 7 JULY 1965 188th day - 177 days to come

Called Bob Abbott. Made date for tomorrow. He was contacted by Mattel for a possible job. He mentioned me and ACQUIRE. The man he spoke to said that ACQUIRE was the only good game 3M had. Lora told him that Playboy Magazine was planning an article on adult games. Bob wrote to them and mentioned me also.

Tried out PUSH-PULL with BB & with Dana. Use a 8 x 7 checkered board (one row covered.). Each player has 6 checkers Use 6 checkers each of 2 colors. Place them at random on the board -- except that not not more than 2 pcs., regard- less of color, can be in a straight line, orthagonally, or diagonally. Toss a coin and winner can choose color, or to play first. Moves are may by "push" -- two pcs. in the same diagonal move away from each other the same number of spaces as long as they are unoccupied. When hit an edge carrom off (as on a pool table). If hit a corner bounce back in same line. A "pull" move is done on an orthog- onal and the two pcs. move towards each other the same number of spaces. With either a "push" or "pull" move the number of spaces moved is up to the one making the move. Object is to form a line of 3 or more pcs. when a player succeeds. In doing this he scores 1 point (regardless of the length of line or even if two are formed) and con- tinues playing until he cannot score. Play to some defin- ite score. In making a move a player can move two of his own pcs. or one of his own & one of opponent's. But he may not move two of opponent's. - We were making scores [crossed out] as high 68 at one time and this was rather dull. Tried a rule that if a line was formed containing only opponent's pcs. the move was ended, but this didn't help much.
