THURSDAY 20 MAY 1965 140th day - 225 days to come

Went to Stationery Show @ Hotel New Yorker. Saw:- NUMBLE (Mag-Nif, inc.):- A cross word type number game. Infor- mation put on "Large Card." Ad sheet in 1965 Ad Clips folder.

PRIVATEER (Washburne Research and Manufacturing, Inc.) Played on an 18 x 18 board which has a sea, some land and coral spaces which are unpassable. On the sea there are some fog spaces and some sand bar spaces. Near one corner is a port and near the opposite corner is a lagoon with 4 "dig" spaces. Each player gets one a ship and 4 pcs. are put face down on the "dig" spaces, representing a treasure and the other being blanks. There is a dial spinner which determines the wind direction (N, E, S or W). There is a pack of 32 cards. 28 "wind" cards (14 - 2 spaces, 8 - 4 spaces, 4 - 6 spaces, 2 - 8 spaces). 4 "attack" cards (7-5-3-1). 2 to 4 play. Each player is dealt 4 cards. These are played one at a time in rotation, using a wind direction. Then the entire pack is shuffled and 4 more cards dealt and a new wind direction spun. With an "attack" card a player can move up to the full amount in orthagonal or diagonal direction except directly into the wind. Only an "attack" card allows a diagonal move. (Some coral reefs allow a diagonal pass- age, but not an orthagonal.) Object is If a player's cards or card do not allow for a move, because of obstructions, a card is discarded without a move. Object is to reach a "dig" space, take a pc. (hoping it is the treasure pc.) and bring it back to the start. Once a player has a pc. others try to maneuver their boats ("attack") onto the one with the pc. They can then take the pc. (Can a player have more than 1 pc.? Prob- ably.) Player bringing the treasure pc. to start is the winner. When moving thru "fog" spaces, move half the al move of the card. When land on sand-bar space, lose next turn. No penalty for passing over. (Pretty complete rules.)

TREASURE HUNT (Washburne) A Rummy type game Mr. Washburne told me about. Didn't see it. There are cards that spell out "TREASURE" or maybe "TREASURE HUNT." These must be played in order as picked up and game is over when all have been played. Mr. Washburne is interested in new games. I will send him a FOCUS booklet and he'll write and (cont. on 5/21)
