TUESDAY 18 MAY 1965 138th day - 227 days to come

Rcd. card from Warren Buell. He will not be getting into N.Y. in the near future.

Rcd. an ad from A-H for BATTLE OF THE BULGE and for SQUANDER. Latter filed in 1965 "ad clippings." It is another game of losing an amount of money or in other words - MONOPOLY in reverse.

Henry Szwarce was over with the fellow who did the art work. We, including BB, played 2 games of IMAGE (see 5/4). He may changes in the rules. Letter cards when faced from the deck are put on the board and can be taken by any player. The limitation that the first "place" card had to be the image's nationality was removed. These changes worked well. Each player was dealt 7 card and 7 were faced on the board. Players in turn could use as many cards from their hand as they wished as well as from the table and then replace to 7 at the end of their turn. Each player at the start of his turn (except the first play of the game) turns up 2 cards to the board. I added the rule that a player had to play at least one card from his hand and if he played to an image the card from the hand also had to go on the image. In other words - play to just one place on a turn. I felt that allowing a player to play as many cards as he wished from his hand made almost all of the Images finished and picked up in the same turn. This removed much of the play value. I think it preferable to allow only one card from the hand. Even after the deck is exhausted why not continue playing one at a time until all are played and eliminate the penalty for cards left in hand. Henry made the following rule for challenging. When an [crossed out] Image is challenged one or more cards are in question. If the challenge is correct the card is discarded and the player playing it loses 10 points from this score If the ch. The same penalty goes for each questioned card. If the challenger is wrong, the card(s) remain and the challenger loses 10 points for each card. It is possible if more than 1 card is questioned for same to be right and some wrong. Henry allowed more cards to be place on an Image than there were spaces and scored each one as 10 additional points. I think the scoring might be more logical if made as the following:- 0-2-4-6-10-20-30-40 and then allow 10 points for each additional card. (The 0 is more logical because the minimum Image is 2 cards.) We played with 106 cards as indicated below. Three Two more are to be added to bring the total to 108. We were thinking of cards like "Winner," "Loser." (cont. on 5/17)
