19th day - 345 days to come
Bob called. He got copies of the magazine Paul Greenough
wrote about me. Spoke a little about a book.
He & Helen coming here Jan 30.
Thinking of various games on checkerboard, -
one is based on AGON (not the Amberstones').
It is just a GAME IDEA. Object
would be to get 4 pcs. into the
center. Orthogonal moves of 1
space. Send opponent back when
get on two sides.
[DIAGRAM OF AN 8 x 8 CHECKERBOARD. IT IS POPULATED BY 28 PIECES (CHECKERS) ARRANGED AROUND THE OUTER EDGE OF THE BOARD. THERE ARE 14 DARK PIECES AND 14 WHITE PIECES PLACED IN ALTERNATING ORDER AROUND THE ENTIRE BOARD. THE INNERMOST 4 SQUARES OF THE BOARD ARE MARKED WITH THICKER LINES THAN THE REST.]
Another idea idea which might be called TURNING POINT
allows one player's pcs. to move to a symmetrical
position around another pc. See sketch. Can do
this on any friendly pc. or possibly
would be better to have markings on
the pcs. and only pcs. with the
same marking could turn on each other.
Replacement capture probably best.
[DIAGRAM DEPECTING WHAT APPEARS TO BE HALF OF AN 8 x 8 CHECKERBOARD. a PIECE IS DEPICTED MOVING FROM ONE SPACE ON THE BOARD TO ANOTHER (SHOWN BY DASHED LINE). THE NEW SPACE HAS 180 DEGREE ROTATIONAL SYMMETRY AROUND A CENTRAL PIVOT POINT FROM THE STARTING POINT.]
Another idea which might be called TEMPO. Use numbered
pcs. (as in my version of L.O.A.) with capture of a certain
number in sequence as the objective.
Each player has a set of cards, say two each of the
following : -
