Another <s>idea</s> idea which might be called TURNING POINT
Another <s>idea</s> idea which might be called TURNING POINT
allows one player's pcs. to move to a symmetrical
position around another pc. See sketch. Can do
this on any friendly pc. or possibly
would be better to have markings on
the pcs. and only pcs. with the
same marking could turn on each other.
Replacement capture probably best.
[DIAGRAM DEPECTING WHAT APPEARS TO BE HALF OF AN 8 x 8 CHECKERBOARD. a PIECE IS DEPICTED MOVING FROM ONE SPACE ON THE BOARD TO ANOTHER (SHOWN BY DASHED LINE). THE NEW SPACE HAS 180 DEGREE ROTATIONAL SYMMETRY AROUND A CENTRAL PIVOT POINT FROM THE STARTING POINT.]
Another idea which might be called TEMPO. Use numbered
pcs. (as in my version of L.O.A.) with capture of a certain
number in sequence as the objective.
Each player has a set of cards, say two each of the
following : -
[SMALL DIAGRAM OF FOUR NUMBER/SYMBOL COMBINATIONS.
AN COMPASS-LIKE ARROW POINTING TO 8 DIRECTIONS NEXT TO A 3.
AN COMPASS-LIKE ARROW POINTING TO 8 DIRECTIONS NEXT TO A 2.
A 'V' SHAPED ARROW POINTING IN 2 DIRECTIONS NEXT TO A 1, AND
A SINGLE ARROW POINTING UP NEXT TO A 1.]
At the beginning of game each player chooses (independently) one card
which is faced up. All of his pcs. can move the number shown -
exactly. Players move one pc. @ a time. After moving player
may change his moving card but a card once used cannot
be used again. Captures are by replacement. Pcs. whether
friendly or enemy can be passed over on a move.
Another idea for an objective would be to require that
captures be in sequence starting with the first capture.
Thus if 6 captures are required and a player captures #5 as
his first capture, his next must be #6, then #7, etc.
With this objective it would probably be O.K. to allow the
1 cards to move in all eight directions. A starting position
of 16 pcs. <s>would probab</s> in the first two rows would probably be
satisfactory.
